suggestions for relieving
Main St. congestion in the
summer months included a
connection with Oak St., and
a park-and-ride system to
bus tourists to the main
beach were heard by the
Grand Bend parking com-

The main item on the agen-

village's one-way streets
and curbside parking, an
issue on which public com

With the help of a Wintario
Grant, the. Grand Bend
Recreation Committee will
purchase a 'slide projector
and screen as discussed last
year. The committee heard
at its February meeting last
Tuesday that its grant ap-
plication was incomplete, so
it selected a unit from a
Goderich store for entry in
the application. Some money
will also come from the
committee's budget of 1981.
The committee also moved
to donate 8154 to the Parkhill
Silver Blades Figure Skating
Club for the seven Grand
Bend children enrolled in the
club. The donation was made
in response the club's
request for money to cover
the childrens^ travelling
costs to the North Middlesex
arena.
The committee asked for
more information from the
Parkhill Minor Hockey
Association before a grant
could • k authorized. The
grant is to come out of the
1981 budget since it was
discussed last December.
The idea of getting por-
table toilets for the area on
River Road for use this
summer came up. It was
decided to obtain one im-

the riverbed ice rink. Dennis
Snider added that in the.
future a cement base for the
portapot should be installed.

which tourists could be mov-
ed by buses down to the
beach, and therefore clear
Main St. of the usual crow-
ding of parked cars. Harold
Green said the ride would
have to be free if drivers
were already charged for
parking or no one would use
it.
Another letter suggested
connecting Main and Oak
Streets at the far west ends
and making the loop one-
way. Bob Sharen replied that
the same idea had been
studied by professionals
several years ago without
success.
Traffic flow on 81 Crescent
was also discussed. Dennis
Snider asked if an explicit
one-way sign could be in-
stalled at the west end to re-
mind those who still forget
the fact. Changing the signs
at the Gill Road end was
brought up but it was decid-
ed to defer that until the
summer.
A letter signed by 15
residents of Heamen St. ask-
ed if their street could be
made one-way because it is
so "narrow and there have
been many near -crashes. A
recommendation was
therefore made to council
that the request be granted.
Cntnmittee chairman Bill
Harwood asked if the park-
ing at the new post office
will create a problem, poin-
ting out that angle -parked
cars at the lock box area will
have to back out into traffic.

pylons to keep Oak St, clear
in the summer for emergen-
cy vehicles trying to reach
the beach, but it was im-
mediately noted that thieves
would take them all away.
When asked about parking
in Gibbs Park, Harold Green
asked the cormnittQe to wait
until the road is paved
before making recommen-
dations to council.
