Hold Christmas
The Sunday school
Christmas concert was held
Friday evening with a good
crowd in attendance. The
Sunday school members put
on the pageant "No Room in
the Inn." Mrs. William Roh-
de played 'Star of the East"
on the piano.
Mrs. Mac Hodgert gave a
humorous reading. Mr.
Robert Bray sang a solo "A
Child of the King" ac-
companied on the piano by
Miss Agnes Bray. During the
pageant the congregation
joined in the singing of many
Christmas carols. The of-
fering was received.
Mr. Lorne Thrower told
the Christmas customs in
other lands. Santa Claus
arrived and a joyous time
was held with him and the
children. Gifts were handed
out from under a beautifully
decorated tree, which
broughtanenjoyable evening
to a close.
United Church
Thames Road United
Church experienced a very
good turn out to celebrate the
last Sunday of Advent as
their Christmas Service. The
choir sang two beautiful
anthems, which expressed
the theme of worship.
through music.
Mr. Lorne Thrower led the
service and told a story to
the children a story about the
importance of the star and of
bells at Christmas time. He
was aided by using a visual
effect of a star and bells, cut
out of a sheet of paper.
The scripture was taken
from the Gospel of Luke,
giving the account of the
angel Gabriel coming to
Mary and informing her that
she was to be blessed with
child.
Mr. Thrower's message
was entitled "Do you hear
what I hear?" It centered
around the fact that Advent
is a time for preparation,
and this was emphasized
and parallel by the hustle
and bustle that faces all of us
trying to prepare for
December 25.
Mr. Thrower also told the
story of the "Cobbler and His
Guest," which dramatically
portrayed the old cobbler as
a man of Christian action,
rather than one who only
professed to be.
The cobbler, befriended
the needy while waiting for
his guest to appear and was
disappointed because the
guest never showed- ups
Finally, the cobbler was
brought face to face with
reality when he heard the
words: "Anything you did
for one of my brothers here,
however humble, you did for
me."
