HUGH MORENZ SHIPKA An organizational meeting will be held at Shipka Community Centre on Thursday, October 15, 8 p.m. to plan the annual Harvest dance. HEBER DAVIS Mrs. Viola Atkinson gave her home Thursday evening for the October A.C.W. meeting, with 11 members and one guest present. The theme of Thanksgiving was followed, Marguerite Greenlee read a Thanksgiving prayer to open the meeting and all repeated the general Thanksgiving prayer. Margaret Carroll read an article from the "Living Message" entitled "Loaf of Bread", Joan Greenlee read the Meditation followed by the Scripture taken from 1st Corinthians 13-1-13 by Marguerite Greenlee. Reports were given by secretary Mary Jefferies and treasurer Mary Davis. Plans were made for 2 tables of home baking and quilt ticket sale tables at the Lucan community craft fair November 14. Plans were made for a Hallowe'en party for the Sunday School pupils and a dessert euchre to be held November 18 in the Parish hall at St. Patrick's church. The mystery prize donated by Vicky Gee was won by Margaret Carroll, the meeting closed with prayer and the hostess served refreshments and a social hour followed. The November meeting is planned for November 12 at the home of Hazel Eaton. Personals Mr. and Mrs. Don Abbott, Manitoba spent Thursday night with Mr. and Mrs. Jean Barker. Mrs. Mary Davis and Mrs. Alma Godbolt, Exeter, were luncheon guests Tuesday with Mrs. Catherine Elston and Sheila Halebierton who is spending a week with her mother. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Carroll visited their brother- in-law and sister Mr. and Mrs. H.A. Mullins London, Mr. Mullins returned home from Victoria hospital recently. Mrs. Mary Davis and her sister Mrs. Alexia Atkinson spent the holiday weekend in Ohio returning via Niagara Falls, Monday. Mike and Michelle. Sympathy is expressed to Gloria ana Harvey Beierling and sons, in the death last Friday of Gloria's grand- father, Henry Adkins, of Zurich at Marine General Hospital, Goderich, and the sudden death, Sunday of Gloria's grandma, Mrs. Henry Adkins. A double funeral service was held, Tuesday, from Zurich. Persona Is Leota Snyder, Lucille Vincent, Judy Snyder, Eleanor Durie and Annie Morenz, attended the Thanksgiving Ecumenical, from this area, last Friday night at Church of God. Sincere sympathy is ex- tended to Mrs. Earl Vincent, her family and grand- children in the death of Mr. Vincent, last Wednesday October 7 at St. Joseph's hospital, London. Funeral service was held Saturday from T. Harry Hoffman Funeral home. Pallbearers were George Winegarden Ray and Harvey Beierling, Louis Zirk, Ferman and Jim Snyder. A poem Spending Your Day the Happiest Way by Mrs. Lloyd Ballantyne. A reading Do's and Don'ts by Mrs. Kellett. Mrs. Dawson opened the business part of the meeting with a poem "Chilisauce". Roll calf. minutes and cor- respondence, treasurer's report were given. It was decided to give 820 to Five Oaks, 820 for Hospital Auxiliary, and 825 for Christmas Gift for Foster Child, and 8500 to Board of Managers of Church. It was also decided to cater to the Optimist ban- quet. November 9 at Kirkton Woodham Community Cen- tre. and to the Co-op banquet at the South Huron Rec Cen- tre. November 20. Members will put the cook books together nn Thursday evening October 15 at 7:90 p.m. in the church base- ment. An invitation was read from Elimville to go to their meeting October 28. Lunch was served by Group W. and the hostess Miss Doris Elford. Thanksgiving Church service Sunday the church was tastefully decorated with horns of plenty with fruit and vegetables which were done by the Young People's Class and their teacher Mrs. Murray Daw- son. The children's hymn was Thank You Lord, and Mr. Thrower told the children a story about being thankful by using a puppet. The choir rendered an anthem. The message was entitled "Think and Thank". On the way into church each person was given an envelope with something in it. In the prayer each envelope was opened which had five kernels of corn in it. The first kernel stood for T which stood for Theology, The second kernel stood for H which stood for Heritage, The third kernel stood for Aversity. The fourth kernal stood for N which stood for Nation, The fifth kernel . PETER MARTIN CREDITON Thursday evening the ladies of the United Church Women met in the Sunday School rooms. In charge of devotions were Joyce Preszcator, Mary Kenney and Bernice Fritz. Joyce related about the children she had taught basing her theme on the "Disabled" Mrs. Earl Neil opened the business portion with prayer roll call was taken and various reports were given. Next month's roll call is, to bring a homemade_ (if possible) Christmas 'tree decoration. These are to be used on the trees in the church. After a few business reports, lunch was served by Marie Fydenchuk, Bernice Fritz and Irene Schlenker.Evelyn Pickering thanked the programme and lunch committee. ROBERT LAING Rally Sunday and Thanksgiving Services were combined at Cromarty Presbyterian Church, Sunday morning. The junior choir sang a number and joined with the senior choir to sing Thank You.
