Education theme for roll call at Clandeboye Institute
CLANDEBOYF
The September meeting of
Clandeboye Women's
Institute met Wednesday
evening at the home of Mrs.
Rupert Williams.
Fourteen members
answered the roll call: "Is
the system of education
fulfilling the needs of the
present generation?" This
roll call presented an in-
teresting discussion that fit
the Education and Cultural
Activities program with
Hazel Williams as convener.
Mrs. Williams gave an in-
teresting paper on educa-
tion. She said, Education is
an on-going challenge from
time of birth until the end of
your lifetime, also she
quoted Pearl Bailey saying,
"the mind slows down only
when it is not used and as
you get older, folks do forget
to take their minds for a
walk every day."
The motto, "Children who
are taught tolerance,
respect and obedience are
seldom taught by the law,
later," prepared by Lucille
Blake was read by Jean
Hodgins. Velma Hardy gave
a good report of the W.I.
District Annual.
There are two Clandeboye
4-H homemaking clubs for
the fall project. The leaders
are Mrs. John De Weerd and
Elaine Cunningham and
June and Judy Henry. Lunch
committee Gladys Cun-
ningham and Betty Coughlin
assisted the hostess with a
delicious lunch and a social
time was enjoyed by all.
UCW Meets
Gwen Lynn was hostess
for the September meeting
of the United Church
Women. Mary Scott led the
devotions "How Beautiful
the Clouds" reflecting on the
many ways in life clouds
affect or relate to everyone
at some time in life.
The members read a
Scripture pertaining to each
cloud referred to. Kay
Armstrong read an article
on the "after -glow" which
means "Hope". A poem
"My Daily Creed" was read
by Beth Neil. The study was
conducted by Betty
Coughlin.
A letter was read from
Miss Lillius Brown, of In-
dore, India, telling of their
1980 Christmas activities
they shared together as
Christians, also how she en-
joyed her furlough in the
summer of 1980 with her
family and friends.
This letter was most en-
joyed as Miss Brown is one
of our Mission and Service
projects. During the
business, thank you letters
were read from the Teen
Girls Home in London also
from the family of the late
Aggie Northgraves.
The treasurer's report was
much brighter since the
catering of a couple of wed-
dings in the past month. It
