Many Greenway residents attend London anniversary By ANNE WALPER Mrs. Marilyn Stoyle, Lon- don, and Mrs. Karen Walker, Toronto, welcomed relatives. neighbours and friends at an open house on Saturday afternoon, September 5 in honor of their parents, William and Adelle (Lovie) Curts fiftieth wed- ding anniversary. The event was held at the honored couples' home on Chid- dington Avenue in London. Mrs. Lawrence Curts, Grand Bend, and Miss Viola Curts. London, poured tea from the artistically decorated tea table, and Mrs. Sandra Stuart, Dorchester, served refreshments. In the evening a family dinner was held at the Seven Dwarfs . restaurant which was enjoyed by 29 members. Manuel Curts was master of ceremonies and read con- gratulatory messages from Mayor Al Gleeson, London; Premier of Ontario, William Davis; Governor General Ed Schreyer; Prime Minister, Pierre Trudeau; and the Rev. Steph'n J. Mathers, Toronto, who of- ficiated at the wedding. The United Church Women Wednesday the U.C.W. held their meeting at Craigholme Nursing Home at Ailsa Craig. Evelyn Curts opened the meeting with organ selections. Doris Eagleson read a poem called "Those Good Folks". A duet God Will Take Care of You was sung by Ruby Isaac and Isobel Bullock and the Scripture Proverbs 3 Verses 1 to 10 was read. Violet Brown, who was in charge of the Devotional took for her topic The Water of Life. The hymn Blessed Assurance was sung follow- ed by singing some hymns chosen by ladies from the home. President Iva Lagerwerf took charge of the business. The Benediction and Grace were spoken in unison. Mrs. Alice Hartle told us about life in the home and also about the activities in which they participate. Personals Mr. Peter Snell of Exeter was speaker at the United Church Sunday. Ruthann Eagleson is teaching grade one at Stephen Central. Andrew Eagleson, Jackie Wiersma, Lisa McCarter, Mark and Chris McLinchey are atten- ding kindergarten this year. The sympathy of the com- munity is given to the Harlton family in their re- cent bereavement. Anna Eagleson attended the noon luncheon at the Western Fair Monday, Ladies day. She represented Cloverdale Women's Institute. Many people from the area attended the wedding and dance for Mr. and Mrs. Jim Mitchell nee Cathy Nethercott at the Parkhill Community Centre, Satur- day night. Dinner guests with Jim and Doris Eagleson Tuesday evening were Lloyd and Dorothy Knight, Exeter. Olive Horner and Joe Thompson were guests at the Twynstra- Lynn wedding at Lucan Saturday. Congratulations to Mr. and Mrs. Ron Walker nee Ann Bullock who were married at Greenway United Church Friday. A large crowd at- tended their wedding dance at the Parkhill Community Centre. Monday evening the people from the Mollard Line gathered at our home in honour of Doug and Cathy Walper. Contests were given by Shirley Eagleson and Marlene Turnbull following which Harvey Eagleson presented a gift on behalf of the line. Marlene Turnbull read the address. The couple thanked the neighbours and a delicious lunch followed. The sympathy of the community is extended to the Rock family because of their recent bereavement. Sunday Church services were in charge of the Session at Greenway United Church. The sermon was given by Peter Wiersma and Ann Eagleson. Gladys Hodgins, London is spending a few days with Gertie Rock. Once more the school bells are ringing and both Elementery and High School students have returned to classes. Go ahead for Medical Centre shwood church ladies groups meet By MRS. IRVIN RADER Calvary United Church Womep held their meeting September 8 with Crediton and Zurich U.C.W. as guests. The Stewardship and Finance '.Committee was it charge with Mrs. Hugh BoyLB; chairlady. The devotion was centered around the year of the Disabled Person, Prayers, scriptures and readings were given by the com- mittee, Mrs. Bill Chandler Mrs. Jessie Rader, Mrs. Gerald Mason and Mrs. Ralph Weber. Annmarie Hoffman was soloist. Thames Valley Children's Centre in London, executive director, Michael Lysecki showed a film and spoke on the work of the centre. Mrs. Don Gaiser presided lfor the business at Kippen Wednesday September 30. Dashwood United Church official board is planning a craft sale October 10 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Hoffman's Ambulance garage. The Sunshine committee for September and October is Mrs. Don Gaiser and Mrs. Gerald Mason. Zion Ladies' AId Zion Lutheran church ladies" Aid met for the first meeting of the fall Tuesday, September 8. Group 2 with conveners Mrs. Ray Rader and Mrs. Earl Keller, was in charge of devotions and lunch. The president, Mrs. Florence Martene opened with bible reading and prayer. Mrs. Irvin Rader gave a reading, "The Ladies' Aid now and then". Pastor Mellecke handed out a page of 29 questions for a general bible knowledge test followed by discussion of troublesome answers. Mrs. Martene presided for the business. Donations for the bakeless bake sale were received. Twenty members were present. The Altar Guild reported 18 visits. The Guilds during the summer months were very busy. The new Guild is Mrs. M. Mellecke and Mrs. Florence Martene. Seven cards were sent. Fruits and vegetables for Thanksgiving are to be brought to the church Saturday, October 10. The Ladies' Aid fowl supper will be October 13. Mrs. Earl Keller had closing devotions followed by lunch. Medical Committee Meets The Dashwood and Area Medical Committee met in the community centre Thursday, September 10. The doctor's relations committee and the chairman will attend the meeting of the Underserviced • Area Program Advisory Branch sponsored by the Ontario Ministry of Health in Lon- don, October 29. The go ahead signal was given the building chairman to proceed with contracts for water service, drainage, heating, brick laying etc. Money received from two rummage sales was en- couraging and the com- mittee appreciates the response for articles donated and those who worked to make the project a success. Barbara Laing tell an interesting story "The first day of school." There are a few teachers this year. The children enjoyed being back. Sunday, September 20, the United Church is honouring the disabled with special speaker Elaine Townshend. This will be a family service with the Sunday School taking part. Everyone is welcome. Thursday, September 24 at 6 p.m. the Teen group of Calvary U.C., are starting off with a barbecue behind the church weather per- mitting. Personals Fraser Boyle, son of Hugh and Bernice is vacationing at home prior to starting his new position as designer and master carpenter with Centaur Theatre in Mon- treal. He attended South Huron District High School and Niagara College of Theatre Arts in Welland. Barbara Rader is a student at Fanshawe College. Judith Mellecke of Ann Arbor, Michigan, spent the weekend with her parents, Rev. and Mrs. M. Mellecke and family. Mr. and Mrs. Eben Weigand and family and Mrs. Charles Martene and family attended the Mar- tene-Biggs wedding at Redeemer Lutheran Church, London, and the dinner and reception at Lucan. The groom is their nephew and son of Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Martene. Dashwood Seniors will hold their first fall' meeting Monday, September 21.
