Retired Crediton farmer.
builds colorful windmills
By MISS ELLA MORLOCK-
Emerson Wein, retired
from farming. has found a'
way to.occupv his time dur-
ing winter months. He builds
windmills.
His hobby dev'eloped_from
a design he' sag -in a
-farmer's maga;ine two
• years ago. He built the.. first
windmill. a Dutch model.
following_..the .pattern :be
received. others he has
developed by his own skill.
-The ones he builds now are
like those one saw on farms
some years ago. The wheel
• is a two -fold one. made to
run so that the outside one
whirls_in one direction while
the inner one turns the op-
posite way. The entire head
swivels in response to 'the
wind.
The painting in gold. red.
white and green is according
to Mr. v'ein's fancy. The -
finished mflls stand in his
yard. Passersby stop to'
make enquiries or to
purchase a mill for
themselves.
. Besides windmills. Emer-
son whittles out human
figures which move their
arms when the wind blows.
There are weather • vanes
and bird hquses. all the
result of his ingenious plan-
ning and painstaking care.
