Re: swimming program at
Grand Bend.
It is regretted that there will be
no swimming lessons this year at
Grand Bend.
Priority duty of a lifeguard is
suggested by the name, the
guarding of Life, i.e., the
prevention of water fatalities by
diligent patrolling of beaches and
supervision of swimmers.
Our lifeguards plan an in-
tensive beach program this year.
teaching water safety rules to
children and adults alike, so that
aquatic sports and fun can be
enjoyed by all without the season
being marred by fatalities
resulting from carelessness or
indifference to common sense
safety rules.
This year. we have three
lifeguards, but only two are
qualified swimming instructors,
which means that if we had a
swimming program it would add
an extra workload to an already
over -loaded schedule for the
lifeguards.
However, it is anticipated that
next year swimming instruction
can be included in our summer
program.
It may be suggested that we
could hire another lifeguard, but
it should be noted that the cost of
a safety and swimming program
is borne by the ratepayers of the
village with no assistance from
any other municipality or the
province, and, therefore, we have
to study the cost factor also.
It is hoped that all parents will
understand the reason for not
including a swimming in-
structionprogram for the 1975
summer season.
Signed
Grand Bend Recreation
Committee.

Kathy Dotson, a London
resident working for the summer
at El Gaucho in the pavilion at
Grand Bend. was the subject of
my camera lens one day last
week.
Now a beautiful young lady is a
pleasure to photograph at
anytime. Usually. I get assigned
to take pictures of Hereford
calves. car accidents or homely
politicians. So when my tired
eyeballs focus on a shapely form
such as Kathy's, it's a treat.
But it was a triple treat for me.
Working with Kathy was my first
real experience with a
professional model. A quick
description of the shot I wanted
or the effect desired and Kathy
did it perfectly the first time.
Before long it became apparent
that she was the professional and
1 was the amateur. Besides en-
joying myself. I learned a few
things.

the other day about the fact that

tugs, even if they are a little
smelly, have a certain character
about them which lends a little
atmosphere to the place.
