Wednesday, June 25 marks the opening of the Granary -Art Gallery, Huron Country Playhouse. We are looking for- ward to an exciting season along with the theatre. A wide variety of media will be exhibited by many local artists. The first show features Brad Faber of Zurich. This up and coming sculptor, twenty four years of age presently has work in the Annual Western Ontario Exhibition of the London Public Art Gallery and last year had a one man show at The Polyglot Gallery, London. The Playhouse has purchased a piece of his work for permanent display. This will be unveiled opening night June 25. The four other shows of the season include;- July 9-19 Young Area Artists (High Schools of the Area) Mixed Media. July 21 - Aug. 2 - Rick Hayter, Dashwood, etching and drawing; Bob Bondy, London, photography; Ruth Anne Merner, Dashwood, weaving. Aug. 6-16 Richard Foster, St.Thomas, paintings; Kaaren Batten, Exeter, pottery and hangings. Aug. 20-30 Karen (Hern)Tieman, RR Crediton, Fiber sculpture; Tom Smart, London, watercolours. We welcome you to the Granary Gallery, 1975. Sincerely Ruth Anne Merner To the editor: Re: swimming program at Grand Bend. It is regretted that there will be no swimming lessons this year at Grand Bend. Priority duty of a lifeguard is suggested by the name, the guarding of Life, i.e., the prevention of water fatalities by diligent patrolling of beaches and supervision of swimmers. Our lifeguards plan an in- tensive beach program this year. teaching water safety rules to children and adults alike, so that aquatic sports and fun can be enjoyed by all without the season being marred by fatalities resulting from carelessness or indifference to common sense safety rules. This year. we have three lifeguards, but only two are qualified swimming instructors, which means that if we had a swimming program it would add an extra workload to an already over -loaded schedule for the lifeguards. However, it is anticipated that next year swimming instruction can be included in our summer program. It may be suggested that we could hire another lifeguard, but it should be noted that the cost of a safety and swimming program is borne by the ratepayers of the village with no assistance from any other municipality or the province, and, therefore, we have to study the cost factor also. It is hoped that all parents will understand the reason for not including a swimming in- structionprogram for the 1975 summer season. Signed Grand Bend Recreation Committee. Kathy Dotson, a London resident working for the summer at El Gaucho in the pavilion at Grand Bend. was the subject of my camera lens one day last week. Now a beautiful young lady is a pleasure to photograph at anytime. Usually. I get assigned to take pictures of Hereford calves. car accidents or homely politicians. So when my tired eyeballs focus on a shapely form such as Kathy's, it's a treat. But it was a triple treat for me. Working with Kathy was my first real experience with a professional model. A quick description of the shot I wanted or the effect desired and Kathy did it perfectly the first time. Before long it became apparent that she was the professional and 1 was the amateur. Besides en- joying myself. I learned a few things. The pictures? ...oh yes...they're interested in getting your promotional shots to be used by message on the directory, call the village and the Chamber of 235-1331. Commerce in displaying the assets of Grand Bend, and Kathy Dotson is certainly one of those assets. Cliff. • — A small wine and cheese party was held Monday night at Kelly's Boogie Parlour. Guests of honour were Steve McCann and Randy Dawdy, members of "Busker", a popular group playing at Kelly's this week. — Heard someone complaining the other day about the fact that CFPL-TV used a picture of the fish tugs lined up along the Ausable as a background for a station identification. To me fish tugs, even if they are a little smelly, have a certain character about them which lends a little atmosphere to the place. — Canada Trust ,100 gets un- derway this weekend.
