A great day in Greenway,
large crowd at anniversary
By MANUEL CURTS
GREENWAY
"It was a great day. This was
the comment of the many former
members who came from near
and far to join in the 100 year
celebration of the birthday of
Greenway United Church on
Sunday, June 8.
Responding to the 260 in-
vitations sent by the Centennial
Committee they came from
Detroit, Sarnia, Toronto and
London - you name the place,
there was someone from there.
When they filled the auditorium,
still they came and were ushered
to the Sunday School rooms,
where, fortunately a public ad-
dress system had been set up,
thanks to "Chuck" Box of
Parkhill.
Greenway United Church had
its beginning in 1860 when Mrs.
James McPherson gathered the
children in the community into
her home on Sunday and held
Sunday School for some time.
The first gathering held in the
nature ,,r a church community
event v, as a meeting held in
Henry Shank's woods in 1868.
Then in 1875 a Methodist
Episcopal Church was built on
the site where the United Church
now stands. That church was
replaced in 1897.
Several smaller churches in the
area which joind with this church
in the pioneer days, included,
Bethel Methodist situated on the
farm now owned by Mrs. Irwin
Luther; Salem Methodist,

In 1926 the Corbett
Presbyterian Church and the
Greenway Methodist Church
joined to form the Greenway
United Church.
Since 1884 no less than twenty-
six ministers have served the
church which is of the Grand
Bend Pastoral Charge. Surviving
today are Rev. J. M. Coiling,
London; Rev. S. J. Mathers,
Toronto; Rev. J. B. Moore,
Kitchener; Rev. K. M. Wood,
Victoria, B.C.; Rev. W. C. Smith,
Oshawa; Rev. A. E. Holley,
Kitchener; Rev. C. A. Brittain,
Minesing and Rev. G. E. Morrow,
London.
The present minister, Rev. H.
G. Dobson will be succeeded by
Rev. H. J. Moore of Cedar
Springs on July 1.
Rev. A. E. Holley was the guest
minister at the morning service
on June 8 and another former
minister, Rev. C. A. Brittain will
be the speaker at the continuing
celebrations on October 19.
Rev. K. M. Wood who had
planned to attend the services in
October has now regretfully
declined the invitation.
Of special interest to many of
those attending the June 8
celebration was the display of
pictures and other items arrayed
in the Sunday School room,
under the supervision of Mrs.
Harold Brophey, daughter of the
late Wilbert Young, to whom
much credit is due to the
preservation of much of the early
history of the church.

Following the morning service
a luncheon was served by the

cidentally was built in 1927.

Auditor's Report
To the Huron -Perth County
Roman Catholic Separate School Board
We have examined the Balance Sheet of the Huron -Perth
County R.C.S.S. Board as at December 31, 1974, the Revenue Fund
- Statement of Operations and the Statement of Source and
Application of Capital Funds for the year then ended. Our ex-
amination included a general review of the accounting procedures
and such tests of accounting records and other supporting
evidence as we considered necessary in the circumstances.
In our opinion these Financial Statements present fairly the
financialosition of the Board as at December 31. 1974 and the
results ofitsoperations and the source and application of its
capital funds for the year then ended, in accordance with accoun-
ting principles generally accepted for Ontario school boards
applied on a basis consistent with that of the preceding year.
