Stolen car involved in mishap,
sum of money found in Lucan
A stolen car was damaged to
the extent of $1,200 when it left
Concession 7 in London township,
a quarter mile west of Adelaide
street, Thursday afternoon.
The vehicle was owned by
Tennis courts
now underway
Work has been started on two
new tennis courts which should
provide opportunities for active
recreation for the Lucan com-
munity.
It is hoped that there will be
enough interested people to
participate in a Tennis Club
throughout the summer and fall
months. An organizational
meeting will be held within the
next two weeks. The time and
place to be announced later. For

dale and was taken the same day
from the Medway high school
parking lot.
Constable W. R. Disher of the
Lucan Ontario Provincial Police
detachment is investigating and
charges are pending against two
area youths suspected in the
case.
Saturday at 1.30 a.m., a
motorcycle driven by Gary
Walker. Ailsa Craig went out of
control on Ailsa Craig's blain
street and slid on the asphalt.
Walker . and a passenger
Stephen Pearson, London suf-
fered cuts and bruises in the
mishap. Constable D. R. Vance
listed damages at $25.
Threepersons_were treated -for
cuts and bruises at University
Hospital, London Sunday evening
following a collision on Adelaide
street at Concession 9 in London
township. Drivers of the vehicles

received hospital treatment.
They were transferred to
hospital by Thames Valley
Ambulance. Constable J. A.
Wilson estimated damages at
$2.300.
At 11.30 p.m., Sunday a vehicle
driven by Gerald Mero, RR2,
Denfield left the Denfield
sideroad just south of highway 7
and struck a hydro pole.
Constable G. N. Wilcox was the
investigating officer and he listed
damages at $450.
A quantity of money has been
found in Lucan. The owner may
claim - it by identifying the
amount_and-denomination -at-the
Lucan OPP detachment.
Zeceut amid
Mr. & Mrs. George Jervis
enjoyed a few days visit with
friends in Toronto, last week.
Pte. and Mrs: Paul Melanson of
C.F.B. Borden were weekend
guests with the latter's parents,
Mr. & Mrs. Wm. Froats. On
Sunday the other members of the
Froats family, Mr. & Mrs. Dale
Froats and children, of the
village, and Mr. & Mrs. • Fred
Schembri, London arrived for a
family visit and dinner.
Mrs. Ann Kish has been con-
fined to hospital for the past
week. arriving home Sunday.
Mrs. Hubert Dietrich is a
patient in St. Joseph's Hospital,
London.
Mr. George Jervis, Sr. became
a resident at Craigholme Nursing
Home, Ailsa Craig, Wednesday.
Mrs. Walter Dawson
celebrated her 89th birthday on
Thursday. quietly with a family
dinner at the home of her
daughter and son-in-law Mr. &
Mrs. Ed. Melanson.
Mrs. Harvey Langford, Mr. &
Mrs. John Park, Mr. & Mrs.
Stewart Park and Mrs. David
Park were Sunday guests with
Mr. & Mrs. W. T. Butler, Toronto.
Mr. & Mrs. Horace Lake and
Mrs. Helen Parker of Watford
were Thursday guests with Mr. &
Mrs. Harold Prince and on
Sunday Mr. and Mrs. Ted
Kostecki (nee Prince) visited
with her parents.
Guides tour
Eldon House
The Guides and Brownies have
held regular meetings during the
month of April. A special
program for the Guides was a
tour of Eldon House, London, on
April 20 which was much em-
joyed.
The Brownies held an out-of-
door "playtime" at their last
meeting on April 30. -
Thanks to Mary Egan and
Ruth -Anne Curtis for providing
transportation to Eldon House.

Hold 4-H Achievement Day
The 4-H Homemaking Club
Achievement Day on "Let's
Make Bread" was held at
Medway High School on Satur-
day. May 3, with a good at-
tendance of mothers and friends.
Interesting and sometimes
humorous skits as well as
exhibits were presented and one
demonstration was carried out by
a Granton Club.
• Lucan No. 1 "The Dough-
doughs" presented "Score!
Bread Faults and Their Causes",
in the form of a TV show with
Sheila Smith as emcee. Con-
testants were Ruth Ann Atkinson,
Kim Flood, Cheryle McIntyre
and the winning team and Bev
Huffman, Cheryl Noyes and Jane
Hardy on the losing team.
Commercials were taken by
Coralin Knoblauch, Wendy
Hearn, Robin Revington, Karen
Mason, Susan Huffman, Lynn
Stanley and Carol MacNaughton.
Their leader is Mrs. A. J.
VanGeel.
"Holiday Breads" Lucan No. 2
"The Baker's Dozen" exhibit was
well explained by Karen Toohey,
assisted by Jackie Toonders. This
group is led by Mrs. John Van -
Crafts, euchre
for senior club
During the business meeting of
the Lucan Senior Citizens Club,
chaired by president Gordon
Hotson, it was announced that
bowling had been discontinued
until further notice as there was
some problem at the bowling
alley.
Members were asked to
remember Clarence Rogers, who
is in Victoria Hospital, London,
and those who had not purchased
their ticket for the bus trip were
asked to 'do so following the
meeting. or before May 8.
The "Sunshine Group"
members played euchre with
prizes going to Olive Atkinson,
high ladies; Alma Hodgins, low
ladies; Albert Armstrong, high
men's and Stewart Munro, low
men's.
Members of the "Busy Bud-
dies" craft group, under the
direction of Gerry Zinn, started
their bead work and found it most
intriguing. Other members will
be welcome as this craft will
continue for several weeks.
Lunch was provided by Olive
Atkinson, Sarah Hayter and
Albert Armstrong.
Gladys Atkinson provided a
humorous reading for Kathleen
Neil to present "A Sermon in
Soap".
Tea helps
cancer group
A first in Lucan, a Daffodil Tea,
was held Wednesday at the home
of Mr. & Mrs. George Jervis,
Jr., 244 Butler Stieet. Mrs.
Jervis is the Service to Patients
chairman and Mr. Jervis is a
volunteer driver for the Lucan-
Biddulph Branch of the Canadian
Cancer Society.
Mrs. Carl O'Neil poured tea in
the afternoon with Mrs. David
Kestle, Mrs. Harold Egan, Mrs.
Len Maslen and Mrs. Dean
Gibson serving.
In the evening Mrs. M. H.
Hodgins and Mrs. Harold
Hodgins poured tea and Mrs.
Elmer Summers, Mrs. Donald
Ankers and Mrs. Earl
Knoblauch, served.
Six members from the London -
Middlesex executive attended the
tea in the evening, as well as
three representatives from the
llderton branch.
The draws for two oil paintings
by Mrs. Jervis were won by Ian
Wallace of London and Alan
Maslen, Lucan.
Thanks to all who assisted in
any way to make the first Daf-
fodil Tea so successful. Just
under $200.00 was raised for the
campaign.

passes away
The funeral of the late Mary B.
(Wainman) Adams of Birr was
held on Tuesday afternoon, April
29, at the C. Haskett & Son
Funeral Home.
Mrs. Adams was the beloved
wife of the late Sherman and dear
mother of Jack and George
Adams both of London Twp..
(Blanche) Mrs. Donald Slater of
Mississauga, (Kathleen) Mrs. R.
R. K. Dickson of St. Catharines,
Mrs. Marianne Bathurst of
London, (Alice) Mrs. George
Luce of Burlington, and
(Frances) Mrs. C. A. Sherman of
Sault Ste. Marie.
The service was conducted by
Rev. J. Warden of Birr United
Church. The pallbearers were
grandsons and interment was in
Birr United Cemetery.
Straatman, presented an ex-
cellent exhibit on "Batter
Breads" with Pam Powell,
dressed as a bunny, doing the
commentary. t
Mrs. Greta McKercher, Home
Economist, Dublin and Ruth
Macintosh, Home Economist,
Renfrew, commenting on the
program, were most com-
plimentary on the Lucan Clubs'
skitsand exhibits.
One of the highlights of the
afternoon was the presentation of
County Honours, to 14 members
having completed six clubs.
Three Lucan Club girls were
included, Karen Vander Loo,
Christine Geertsen and Pam
Moor. Marilyn Groenewegan,
assistant leader for the "High
Risers" Clandeboye Club, at-
tended this achievement day and
was also presented with county
honours.
Marilyn will be attending the
school patrol conference in
Ottawa at the time her club will
hold Achievement Day later in
May. Carolyn Adams, Birr No. 1
received provincial honours,
completion of 12 clubs and
Dorothy Garrett, advanced
honours, completion of 18 clubs.
