Kippen UCW plan bake sale,
two couples on Florida trip

The UCW of St. Andrews
Church, Kippen met on March 11
with 19 ladies present. The
president Mrs. David Turner
opened the meeting.
Correspondence included a
thank you from Mrs. Lavery of
the Queensway Nursing Home for
the weekly get together with the
residents; and an.invitation from
the Arnold Circle.
Replying to a letter from
Clinton Hospital it was decided to
send a donation of $10. It was also
decided to hold a smorgasbord
supper on October 22 instead of a
strawberry supper and to have a
bake sale and tea on May 31.
Since April is the month of
entertaining, the guests this year
will be Zurich, Varna, Goshen
and Brucefield with the minister
Rev. Stephens as guest speaker
and showing films.
To mark the 50th anniversary
of the United Church Union a
quill will be made.
Mrs. Harold Jones took the
worship from Luke 24: 1-12 on
Easter.
Mrs. Edison McLean gave the
topic from the study packet on
missions. She read an interesting
version of "Six gifts to make your
children strong" by Ruth Staf-
ford Peale which was followed
by a quiz.
The usual reports were
presented. Mrs. David Cooper
gave courtesy remarks. The
hostesses were Mrs. Leonard
Lovell and Mrs. Percy Wright.
and the topic was laying on a
pattern. cutting and laying on a
blouse.

The first meeting of Kippen II
4-11 club was held at the home of
Mrs. Jack Bell and the election of
officers took place.

Lieutenant Murray J. Haines
recently graduated from the
Canadian Forces Air Navigation
School, Winnipeg, Manitoba. He
was presented his wings by the
Base Commander, Colonel M. D.
Gates, C. D., during the gradua-
tion ceremony.
Lieutenant Haines, 22, is the
son of Mr. & Mrs. Philip James,
Staffa. He graduated from
Mitchell District High School
and attended the Royal Roads
Military College at Victoria B.C.
He graduated from the Royal
Military College, Kingston with a
degree in Engineering and
Management in 1974.
Lieutenant Haines is married
to the former Laurilyn P. Greig,
Victoria, B.C. He is now posted
to 404 Maritime Squadron, CFB
Greenwood, Nova Scotia.
