exhibition hockey wins in games
played at the Ice Box arenas.
Their • scheduled opposition
from Trenton did not materialize
as the team which was in Exeter
a week earlier was engaged in
state playoffs.
Saturday afternoon the Exeter
club scored a 6-1 victory over
Northville and Sunday it was a 6-2
decision over Southgate to
complete a successful weekend
for the local juveniles.
Sunday the Exeter scoring was
well spread around with six
different players sharing in the
scoring. ..
The only goal of the first period
came from the stick of John Van
Gerwen on a three-way effort
_with Jim Ferguson and Dave
Regier.
Two second period markers
gave the Exeter youngsters a 3-0
margin on the scoreboard. Cam
llaist hit on a pass from Phil
Knight and Dave Regier scored
on passes from Phil Knight and
Larry Clarke.
In the third period, Brion
Penhale, Handy Regier and Paul
Shapton were the Exeter
marksmen. Phil Knight added
one assist to up his game total to
three and recognition from the
Trenton arena as a
"playmaker."
Rick Moody provided two
passes on third frame scores and
Brion Penhale, Mike Desjardine,
Randy Regier and Ken Pinder
gained one assist apiece.
The two Southgate goals came
from Rick Gatchell late in the
third period to spoil the shutout
bid by Exeter goalies Rick Snell
and Randy Lovie.
Ken Pinder was the scoring
star for Exeter in Saturday's 6-1
victory. Pinder scored the only
two goals of the first period.
Randy Regier assisted on both
and Brion Penhale helped with a
pass on one.
Each team scored one goal in
the middle stanza with Fred
Campbell converting a Jim
Ferguson pass for Exeter and
Sequin hitting for Northville on a
solo effort.

Jets back even in playoff
The Lucan-Ilderton Jets and
New'Hamburg Screaming Eagles
are all tied up at two games
apiece in best -of -seven Ontario
Hockey Association Continental
senior semi-final series.
The Jets came back with an 8-6
victory Sunday afternoon after
the Screaming Eagles had moved
in front with a 6-3 victory,
Wednesday.
The fifth game of the series
goes at the Ilderton arena,
Friday night at 8:30 with the sixth
back in New Hamburg Sunday at
7:30 p.m. If a seventh and
deciding contest is necessary it
will be played in Ilderton Wed-
nesday March 26 at 8:30 p.m.
The PrestonJesters eliminated
the London Kings Sunday and
will meet the Stratford Perths
in the other semi-final round.
Keep bouncing back
In Sunday's game on home ice
the Screaming Eagles came back
from three and four goal deficits
to make the outcome more than
interesting.
The .lets moved into a 4-1 lead
after the first period of play but
by the four minute mark of the
second their margin had been cut
to a single goal.
The game was less than two
minutes old when Pete Loveless
scored for the Jets on a
breakaway from centre ice. He
was set up by Jack Nairn and
Doug Galloway.
Dick Doughty was next to score
picking up an unassisted goal at
8:17 and at 10:52 Barry Baynham
with a good move in front of the
net scored on passes from Nairn
and Galloway.
Bill White who returned to the
Jets lineup a few weeks ago
scored his first goal of the year on
passes again from Galloway and
Nairn to complete the Jets first
periodcountingafter Ken Bast hit
for New Hamburg.

Rec league
in final round
Newby Tire and Les Pines will
be meeting in a best -of -three
series to decide the championship
of the Exeter and district Rec
hockey league.
Each team won their semi-final
series in two straight games:
Newby Tire edged Usborne 5-4
Thursday night and Les Pines
outscored the North Stars 7-2.
The final series starts tonight,
Thursday at the Exeter arena.
The two losers in the first round
will also meet in a consolation
series.
Dale Skinner's goal midway
through the third period allowed
Newby to secure the win over
Usborne. -
Other goal getters in single
fashion for Newby were Bob
McDonald, Bob Jones, Gary
Parsons and Tom Watt.
Alan Hern with a two goal
effort was best for Usborne.
Getting one goal apiece were Ron
Dougall and Ray Mills.
Dan Mclver fired two suc-
cessful shots to pace the Les
Pines scoring parade. Notching
one goal each were Paul Mason,
Ron Moore, Marvin Bower and
Ian McCallum.
The North Star markers were
fired by Chris Daniel and John
Rowcliffe.

minutes of the second put New
Hamburg back in contention. The
Jets then took over again in the
scoring department and upped
their lead to 7-3.
The first two scores came on
similar scrambles around the
Screaming Eagles goal. Rick
Fifield and Bill White were the
marksmen. Each assisted on the
other and Dick Doughty helped
set up both scores.
Doughty was back ast 14:54 to
score himself with Fifield and
White providing assists.
Before the second stanza was
completed Paul Scherer and
Wayne Gowing hit for New
Hamburg and the Jets lead was
down to two goals at 7-5.
Near the eight minute mark of
the third period Jets goalie Lorne
Daer came well out of his net in an
attempt to clear the puck and hit
Bob Ruthig of NH and the puck
bounced into the Jets net.

Broncos ahead
in Shamrock
The Exeter Broncos scored two
wins this week to up their victory
string in Shamrock minor league
playoffs to three.
The Broncos edged St.Thomas
7-5 Saturday and St. Marys 4-2
Sunday in a round robin games.
The date for a fourth game in the
current series with St.Thomas
has not been set.
Two goals in the first period
Sunday sent the Broncos on the
way to their victory over St.
Marys. The successful shots by
Mark Vandergunst and David
Underwood came in a space of
only 18 seconds.
Vandergunst chalked up his
goal on passes from Scott Pin-
combe and David Shaw and
Underwood converted a ix -..ss
from Mike Clark.
David Shaw scored on an
unassisted effort for the only goal
of the middle frame to put the
Broncos ahead 3-0.
SI. Marys rebounded with two
scores in the final period and
Shaw replied for the Broncos,
again on a solo effort.
Scoring procedure in the win
over St.Thomas was reversed
with the Broncos falling behind 3-
1 at the end of the first period of
play.
The only Exeter goal of the
stanza came from the stick of
John Kernick on a pass from
captain Bill Glover.
The Broncos were back on even
terms for a short time in the first
two minutes of the second period
on successful shots by David
Shaw and Scott Pincombe. Shaw
scored unassisted and Pincombe
registered with passing help from
Mark Vandergunst and John
Kernick.
St. Thomas took a 4-3 lead at
3.19 of the middle frame and then
the Broncos scored two quick
markers to move in front to
stay.Firing the Exeter goals
were John Kernick unassisted
and David Underwood from Bill
Glover.
David Shaw took care of the
balance of the Broncos counting
with two scores in the third
period. David Underwood
assisted on both goals and Scott
Batten assisted on one.

Cousineau's shot bounced off
both goal posts before entering

The Jets were called on seven
minor penalty infractions to four
for the Eagles. The referee was
Frank Slota.
Costly second frame
Wednesday night in Ilderton
the Screaming Eagles took a 4-2
lead after 40 minutes of play and
the Jets were not able to recover.
Each team scored two goals in
the first period.
The game was only 27 seconds
old when Jacques Cousineau
found an opening in the Eagles
net. He scored from a wild
scramble. Assists went to Jim
Blake and Jamie Robb.
Terry Johnson was the other L-
I marksman in the first period on
a combination with Jeff Craig
and Rick Fifield and Paul
Scherer replied for New Ham-
burg.
Bob Ruthig and Tom Pearson
scored for New Hamburg in the
second period and Ruthig
completed his team's scoring in
the third. The final Jets marker
came from the stick of Dick
Doughty at the midway mark of
the third period on passes from
Larry Haugh and Rick Fifield.

on college
HP captures
atom `B' title
Huron Park won the Shamrock
.atom "B" championship trophy
Sunday with a 3-2 victory over
Exeter. In an earlier. contest the
Huron Park youngsters defeated
Lucan 3-1.
Steve O'Neill, David Murray
and John Insley were the Huron
Park marksmen in the win over
Exeter. Terry Hodgins and
Dennis Johnston picked up
assists.
Scott Brintnell fired both
Exeter markers. Trevor Boyle
picked up two assists and
Graham Solomon helped on one
score.
David :hurray scored twice to
pace the HP win over Lucan.
Steve O'Neill added the odd
counter. Dennis Johnston
provided a pair of assists.
In another game in the same
playoff division Lucan blanked
Exeter 3-0.
Steve Glenn scored twice for
Lucan and the single was notched
by Robbie Black.
Pee wee action
in two sections
In pee wee house league play
Saturday morning, Huron Park
edged Exeter 4-3
Rick Sharp scored three times
for Huron Park. The fourth
counter was chalked up by Bob
Riley. Scoring for Exeter were
Allan,Gaiser, Tony Mattucci and
Don Beaver.
Exeter downed Lucan by a
score of 4-2 in a Shamrock league
"13" playoff game recently.
Dave Bell scored twice to lead
the Exeter scoring attack.
Counting in single fashion were
Pete Tuckey and Ian Sweet.
Scoring for Lucan were Doug
Latta and Ken McManus.

The Shipka Colonials currently
lead Centralia College three
games to two in the South Huron
inermediate hockey league semi-
finals.
Sunday night in Zurich. the
Colonials scored a 6-3 win over
the College boys after Centralia
had tied the series at two games
apiece Thursday with a 6-4 vic-
tory at the Huron Park arena.
The sixth game will be played
tonight, Thursday at the Huron
Park arena with a seventh if
necessary at Zurich Sunday night
at 9 p.m.
If the Colonials end the series
tonight, the first game of the
finals against the Zurich Flyers
would go at the Zurich arena
Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m.
The Flyers wound up the other
half of the semi-final at the
Exeter arena Friday night with a
7-5 victory over the Exeter
Mohawks.
Peter Gill led the Shipka
scoring attack in the 6-3 Sunday
win over Centralia with a three
goal performance. Completing
the scoring in single fashion were
Bill Hoffman, John Becker and
Bill Bowden.
Getting one goal each for
Centralia were Ed Robb, Ben
Brown and Craig Schwindt.
On home ice Thursday Dennis
Whiteside and Ed Robb each
fired two successful shots to lead
the College team to victory.
Notching single scores were Ben
Brown and Craig Schwindt.
Hitting the mark for the
Colonials were Jim Guenther,
Bill Hoffman, Peter Gill and Reid
Burley with one goal each.
