The Exeter Times-Advocate, 1975-03-06, Page 7 (2)• Hawks take opener over local juveniles Stamina paid off for the Exeter Hawks Sunday night as they downed the Exeter juveniles 10-3 In the first game of a best -of -five exhibition series. The Hawks scored six times in the third period to add to a 4-1 second period margin. During some of their regular Shamrock league games, the juveniles have been playing as little as 35 minutes as compared to a full 60 minutes in all Hawks contests. The - second game of the series is set for the Exeter arena, Sunday night_at 8.30 p.m. with the third contest slated for the following Sunday at the same time. The first period was scoreless as Randy Lovie of the Hawks and juvenile goalie John Gould kept the slate clean. With close to three minutes elapsed in the second period, Gord Pryde put the Hawks on the scoreboard as he completed a three-way effort with Kevin Bestard and Gerald Weido. At the 6.50 minute mark the Hawks were twtggoals up on Bill Van Bergen's successful shot on passes from Brian Taylor and Rick Ingram. The first juvenile marker came at the 13 minute mark of the second session as Kim McKinnon hit the mark on a play originated by Fred Campbell and Jim Ferguson. The Hawks came back with two goals before the first 40 minutes of play elapsed. The third and. fourth markers came on identical plays- with Gord Pryde registering with the assists going to Gerald Weido. With only 51 seconds gone in the third period, Brian Taylor scored for the Ilawlcs on an unassisted effort and he repeated this performance at the 76.45 mark. The last two juvenile counters came near the midway mark of the final session on successful shots by Bryon Penhale and Paul Shapton. Randy Regier and Ken Pinder assisted on Penhale's marker and Shapton's score was set up by Mike Desjardine and Jit Ferguson. In the last 10 minutes the Hawks hit with four goals to put the victory away. Rick Ingram scored twice, both on solo dashes. T -A photo Jets win ContnentaI.championship The Lucan-Ilderton Jets wrapped up the Ontario Hockey Association Senior Continental league title Friday night by downing the New Hamburg Screaming Eagles 10-5 while the London Kings were being edged by the Preston Jesters. The Jets ended the schedule with 25 wins and a total of 50 points. The London Kings final game Tuesday night was can- celled early in the first period due to ice failure. The hest the Kings could do with a win in their last contest would be a tie with the Jets and. the L-1 club has more victories and assured of the championship. yin other games during the week the Kings edged the Jets 4-1 Thursday and the Preston Jesters scored a 5-3 victory over Lucan-Ilderton in Preston Tuesday night.
