Former Resident dies
Funeral services were held last
week for Mrs. C.F. Person, of
Ontario, California, who passed
away Friday January 24. in her
83rd year.,
Her husband predeceased her
in December 1968.
Mrs. Person has many cousins
and relatives in this area. and at
one time they farmed on the
former Kading family farm.
They moved to California over
50 years ago.

Granton scouts in two groups,
to honour sweetheart moms

At St. Thomas Anglican Church
Rev. R. N. Savary conducted the
morning service, his sermon was
taken from the 1st chapter of
Genesis "The Creating of the
World". Flowers were placed in
the church in memory of the late
Mr. George Carter.
At the annual Vestry meeting
held in the church on Monday
evening January 20 Rev. R. N
Savary presided and opened the
meeting with prayer and a few
well chosen words of ap-
preciation for all who had helped
to make another successful year
for the church.
Mrs. Fred Crouch was re-
appointed Vestry Clerk, James
Hodgins was also reappointed
llector'sWarden. Richard Acres
was made Peoples Warden, Mrs.
Laverne Morley was reappointed
as treasurer, delegates to the
Synod were Mrs. C. Lewis and
Mrs. W. Gilday, subdelegates.

Mary Mclnally took as the
subject for her sermon the
Prophet Amos the second in the
series "Meet the Prophets" the
minister described Amos as "The
Ancient Man with the timeless
Message".

Jim Bakker was named to the
Board of Stewards to replace
Robert Harloff. All reports were
adopted.
Special thanks was given to the
leaders of the Youth Groups.
Church Treasurer, Sunday
School Teachers, the Choir, their
leader and the organist and
U.C.W. for their assistance.
It was decided to dispense with
the Garden Party Fund, also. to
their daughter and family Mr. &
Mrs. Alan Kraut and on Sunday
they attended the Spring gift
show at International centre,
Toronto.
Gail Willard of Exeter spent
the weekend with her grand-
mother Mrs. Raymond Kading.
Charley Forest of Sarnia
visited last Saturday with Mr &
Mrs. Clarke Kennedy.
Mr. & Mrs. Emerson
Desjardine have returned from a
two week holiday in Hawaii.
Mr. & Mrs. Charlie Regier and
Mr. & Mrs. Bill Jennison are
vacationing in Florida.
Mr. & Mrs. Art Finkbeiner
have returned home after
spending a few weeks with their
daughter and son-in-law Dr. &
Mrs. C.B. Sanders and grand-
children Janet and David. at

The U.C.W. have undertaken to
arrange for a special program for
the celebration of the 50th
Anniversary of the United
Church of Canada, also the an-
niversary of the Granton Church.
Explorers
The explorers entertained their
mothers at a Bible Party at the
church on Wednesday evening.
Each girl and her mother formed
a team and took part in a Bible
Quiz.
Tea & cookies were served and
a pleasant time was enjoyed.
Scout & Cub news
The scouts have organized into
two groups, meeting on Tuesday
& Wednesday nights with dif-
ferent leaders for each group.
Martin Vanderminnen, Eric
('hovancik and Ben Kop have
been welcomed as new leaders.
The cubs are preparing for a
Valentine party for their lifelong
Sweetheart, (their mother). They
are also very busy working on
their Stars and Badges.
Women's Institute
Granton Women's Institute met
at the home of Mrs. Kenneth
tlodgins. Mrs. Donald Roloson,
president was in the chair and
conducted the business.
Money was voted to the March
of Dimes Fund, also to Mrs.
George Wilson, Tweedmuir
History convener for some
typing she needed done for the
History Book.
Thank -you notes were received
and read from shut-in's for Xmas
cheer.
In place of a program a few
games of Euchre were played
prize winners were high score
Mrs. J. Debrabandere, low score
Mrs. Austin Hobbs.
:1 delicious lunch was served by
the hostess and conveners Mrs.
George Squire and Mrs. Lois
Herbert.
Party for the Gordon Hodgins
A very special event took place
at the Forrester's Hall on Friday
evening. where more than 150
neighbors and friends gathered to
say good-bye to Gordon and
Nancy Hodgins with a farewell
party and dance.
The highlight of the evening
was the presentation of a
Lazyboy chair. a storage chest
and a cash donation of $50.00.
In thanking everyone for their
gifts. the honored couple were
overwhelmed at such kindness.
Gordon, Nancy and their three
children Lori Anne, heather and
Catherine are moving to Lan-
caster near Cornwall.
We wish them the best of luck
in their new venture. The music
for dancing was provided by the
Haas Bros. London.

plant seminar

Mr. & Mrs. Bill Rammeloo
attended a Plant Seminar Con-
ference in Toronto last Tuesday.
Topic dealt with by various
speakers included information on
the growing of box plants and
green house management.
Golden Wedding
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Becker
were guests Friday evening at a
family dinner at Dashwood Hotel
in honor of their 50th wedding
anniversary. They received a
congratulations phone call
Friday night from Henry's
brother Alvin in Manitoba.
On Sunday afternoon the
family held "Open House" at
Dashwood Community Centre
when around 150 people came to
visit.
Mrs. Rudolph Petznick of
Waterloo, who was Mrs. Becker's
bridesmaid and sister, was
present for the day.
Their family consists of two
sons, Lorne and Alan, and two
daughter (Martha) Mrs. Wilmer
Pfaff, and (Shirley) Mrs. Donald
Glanville, thirteen grandchildren
and two great grandchildren. The
couple received many lovely
cards and gifts.
Personals
As Bill and Melva are ex-
tending their greenhouse
operation to include garden
centre products, they spent part
time visiting with numerous
greenhouse and garden centre
suppliers who were showing their
latest materials for the coming
1975 season.
Eric and Robert Rammeloo
spent the day with their aunt and
uncle, Mr. & Mrs. Stuart Boyce at
Brucefield, while their parents
were in Toronto.
Mr. & Mrs. Lorne Devine
visited Sunday in Waterloo with
Mr. & Mrs. Ervin Latta, Diane
and Loriane. Gary Latta who had
spent a few days last week r •, q;e
farm with his aunt and uncle
returned home with them.

London spent the weekend with
Bill's parents here, and on
Sunday they also visited Mr. &
Mrs. Tom Russell.

Twelve Volunteer Firemen
attended the Mutual Aid meeting
at the Labatt Building in London
on Thursday evening. Two films
were shown and an enjoyable
evening was spent.
We welcome Mr. & Mrs.
Rodney Hancock who have come
to live in the Tomlin Apts. on
Main St.
Wishes for a speedy recovery
go to Allan Aitcheson who is a
patient at St. Mary's Memorial
Hospital, also still in hospital are
Mrs. Pete Wallis, Alton Neil and
Earle Middleton. We hope they
will all soon be well enough to
come home.
Don Middleton is home for the
week -end.
Honour new mothers
Three new mothers were
surprised with baby showers in
the past week. Thursday evening
a shower was given for the
chosen'son Jamie of Mr. („& Mrs.
Kenneth Hoar at the home of
Mrs. J. McCall who was assisted
by Nancy Marshall and Bernice
Fraser.
Friday evening Craig, son of
Mr. & Mrs. Frank Picollo was
honored at the home of Mrs. Robt
Burnett. Also on Friday Mrs. Jim
Harding was surprised at her
home by a shower for her twin
daughters Katherine and
Cassandra (Sam).
