UCW groups meet
Discuss changing mission role
On. January 9, Unit 1 Hensall
U.C.W. met in the church. Anita
Cook presided and read a
meditation "It's a busy world". A
hymn was sung with Belva Fuss
at the piano.
Anita read a poem"No time for
God". Her scripture was taken
from Luke 14, the parable of the
great feast. This was followed by
her devotional message, the
theme "Priorities for the New
Year". She reminded everyone
that we each have twenty-four
hours a day.and when we feel we
have too tnany things to do, we
should use this time doing what is
most important. She finished her
message with a thoughtful
quotation "Time was invented by
Almighty God, in order to give
ideas a chance."
Following prayer, the group
repeated the Lords Prayer in
unison. Offering was taken and
dedicated by Anita, and a hymn
was sung. The minutes of the last
meeting and the correspondence
was read. Twelve members
answered the roll call and paid
membership fees.
Doreen Spencer reviewed the
highlights of last years study
book and then introduced the new
study book "Mission begins with
you" — a mission beginning with

Monday evening at the Church.
Sadie Hoy acted as chairman and'
opened the meeting- with a, New
Year's thought, taken from
Revelations.
Eleanor Mansfield gave the
devotional using scripture from
John. Her meditation was en-
titled "Hats off to the past, coats
off to the futurE," This was
followed by prayer and a hymn.
Peggy Forrest gave the study,
which was prepared by Fran
Mickle. It was an article from the
Readers Digest on Dr. Bethune.
In 1972 it was declared by the
Canadian Government that his
life was tobe of National historic
significance.
The business consisted of the
Annual meeting and pot luck
*dinner on January 29 at 6:30;
UCW Church service on
February 23. with Rev. Ann
Graham Langford as the guest
speaker: the World Day of
Prayer, March 7 at 3 p.m. in
Hensel! United Church.
The roll call was answered by
15 members by paying dues and
relating a New Years thought.
Correspondence read was thank
you notes from .Ann Brock and
Diane Gerstenkorn.
Celebrate
Anniversary
Mr. & Mrs. Fred Brock
celebrated their 50th wedding
anniversary at their home at
Richmond Street in Hensall on
January 12. In the afternoon their
relatives. friends and neighbours
enjoyed a social time with them.
They were the recipients. of
beautiful flowers, gifts and many
cards. They also received
telephone congratulations.
Leaving for a week's visit with
her sister. my wife handed me a
gallon of paint and a four -inch
bntsh. "Honey." she said. "in
case -you feel like painting the
town as soon as I'm gone, how
about starting with the basement
floor^"

Former bank
manager dies
Harry A. Lawrence, formerly
of the Bank of Montreal, London
and formerly with the Bank of
Montreal in Hensall, passed
away in Ottawa Hospital, Sun-
day, January 5.
He was the husband of Edna
Taggart and brother of 011ie
Coghlan, Hamilton and Mrs. Kathy Ferguson, daughter of Mr.
Annie Sutor, Cayuga, Ontario. and Mrs. Lloyd Ferguson, Hensall,
Funeral service was held graduated December 20 from the

patient in St. Josephs Hospital,
London was able to return to her
home.
Mrs. Margaret Barnard,
returned home after spending the
past two months in Florida.
Rev. W. D. Jarvis conducted
service in Carmel Presbyterian
Church on Sunday. The sermon
was "Our -Search for Life's
Purpose." The Sacrament of
Baptism. will be given at the
service next Sunday.

United Church notes
Don and Gail Travers provided
the special music for the service
of worship in Hensall United
Church on Sunday morning. They
sang a duet accompanied on the
piano by Tom Travers. Rev. Don
Beck preached on the sermon
topic "On choosing life".
Next Sunday will be the United
Church's 50th anniversary
celebration, as well, we will be
celebrating 50 years of service to
the Hensall choir by a faithful
member, Harry Horton. Refresh-
ments are to follow this service.

Annual meeting of the Hensall
congregation, and January 30
