WATERLOO Approximately
1,200 senior students, and some of
their teachers, from 45.Ontario sec-
ondary schools will participate in
the University of Waterloo's com-
puter science days. December 7-15.
Between 35 and. 40 SHDHS stu-
dents, accompanied by math teacher
Greg Hoggarth, will attend on De-
cember 12.
They will learn how computcr
science is taught at UW and rotate
among several workshops developed
in response to changes in computer
use, and new technologies. As well
they will try their hand at database
management, Tpreadshects, coniput-
er graphics, Hyprcard and numerical
computation.
UW's-computer science days of-
fers mathematically -inclined high
school students, interested in com-
puter science, a chance to experi-
ence a university and :meet with
university students and professors.

Speaker talks about gems
EXETER - The regular Exeter Li-
oness meeting was held October 24
at the Exeter Masonic hall. A deli-
cious meal was enjoyed by the Lio-
ness, which had been prepared by
the Eastern Star Ladies.

Month, a special welcome was giv-

CLANDEBOYE - St. James
Church started their euchre parties
on Tuesday evening with nine
tables in play.
Prize winners were: high score
Carolyn Hardy and Jack Gilmour;
lone hands s Kay Lankin and Jim Da-
vis; low scores Labelle Dixon and
Gertrude Hodgins.
Next party will be December 6 at
8 '.m.

Jeffrey, brother of the groom, was

ception was held at the Exeter Rec
Centre. Carole and Wayne are now
residing in Zurich.

Our most interesting speaker for
the evening was Lion Mike An-
stett, who also manages Anstett
Jewellers, Exeter. He presented a
slide show, which explained the dif-
ference between the Goms, those
being: Classic - Opals, Garnets;
Fashion - Quartz, Tiger Eye, Blood
Stone and Ivory; Synthetic - which,
are man made and Splendid - dia-
monds, Rubys, Emeralds and sap-
phires.
He stated that Diamond Apprai-
sals were based on the 4 c's - col-
our, clarity, Karat weight and
cutting. Mike had brought different
pieces of jewellery to show to the
members present.
Lion Gary Bean requested help
from the Lioness members to sell
bricks at several locations in Exet-
er. The bricks will be sold for S5.
apiece and monies to go towards the
New Lions Youth Centre being
built at the present time.
Ways and Means Chairperson Li- .
oness Lossy Fuller informed the Li-
oness that soaps were going to be
sold. prior to Christmas. $3.00 a
single or 4 for $10.
' 75' rolls of Cedar Garland will be
-sold during the month of November
at a cost of S 15.00. These orders
will be delivered on Thursday, No-
vember 24.
Exeter Lioness donated $80 to the .
South Huron Recreation Centre for
1 1/2 hours of ice time. $50.00 was
donated to the Huron County -
Christmas Bureau, and all Lioness
are asked to answer Novembers roll •
call with a pair of socks or mitts,
which will be donated to the Bu-
reau.
November meeting is planned for
Monday, November 28 at the Ma-
sonic Hall. Remember that Lioness
"Serve" their community. Support
