• EXETER - Last Tuesday, South
Huron District high School's Jun-
ior and Senior girls basketball
teams travelled to Godcrich and
Stratford Central respectively to
play Huron -Perth semi-final games.
As the Scnior girls entered the
game they had a 2-0 record against
Stratford Central in regular -season
play. A victory for. South Huron
seemed next to impossible.
The 60-32 Toss seems to confirm
the prediction, but it definitely docs
not reflect thc fight Panthers put
forth.
At half time Panthers trailed by
only one point and playa a tough
first half against Central's strong
full court.dcfcnsc. A possible vic-
tory still seemed to he in sight as.
the girls were only down by four
points as thcy entered the fourth
quarter.
In the last quarter of play, a tired
South Huron team, allowed Central
to take over to win 60-32.
Laurie Forrester led the Panthers
with 21 points. Heather Rideout,
Michelle Ellison and Shari Black
each added three apiece.
Despite the semi-final loss. the
Huron -Perth Conference advances
three teams to the Western Ontario
(WOSSA) tournament. Thc Scnior
girls placed third overall and will
play on Friday .at Stratford North-
western.
South Huron Junior girls wcrc
also unsuccessful in their semi-
finals game against the Godcrich
Vikings on Tuesday.
The Panthers wcrc still- in the
game at half time as -they wcrc on
the short end of a 22-20 court. It
wasn't until the last quarter that the
Vikings took over and won 41-34.
