They beat Seaforth Centenaires 6- 2 at the South Huron Rec Centre Friday night and Sunday, Hawks dumped Brussels Bulls 7-4 in Brus- sels. Hawks led 1-0 after the first peri- od and Seafonh stayed close for - most of the second period until Ex- eter pulled away late in the period. Jim Duplantis scored the only goal of the first for the home team, shorthanded. Duplantis also scored the first goal of the second period, at 1:07, from Jim Dickins and Geoff Slater, before Seaforth'tied the game later that period. Mark Morrisey got what proved to be the winner for the home team, at 13:34 of the second, from Dan Nairn and Joel Campbell. Derek Shackleton scored, from Duplantis and Jeff Ansems, and Ansems scored from goaltender Todd Camp- bell later in the second for Hawks. Harlen Tinney, just called up from the Exeter Midgets for this game because of the suspension to Jean Paul Cousineau, scored the fi- nal goal of the game, from Jim Le- wis, in the third period. Details and goal scorers from • Please tum to page 2A Mohawks beat Shelburne EXETER - The Exeter Mohawks did not hit double digits in goals for the first time in four games Sunday night. But nobody on theteam is wor- ried just yet because they are not ex- actly in .a scoring slump either ,as they came close to hitting the dou- ble digits when they beat the Shel- burne Muskies 9-4 in Senior B hockey action at the South Huron Rec Centre Sunday night. The Muskies came seeking re- venge because Mohawks had trounced them 14-4 on the Muskies' home ice November 11, but it was not to be. Shelburne stayed close to Mo- hawks until early in the second peri- od when they broke open a 2-2 tie with four straight goals in that peri - od and cruised from there. Paul Barton got things started for the home team Sunday night when he scored at 3:17 of the opening period, with line mates Quincy Wilker and Dave Randerson picking up the assists. Shelburne answered on a.goal by • Scott Funston at 13:24 of the first. But just six seconds later Wilkcr put hfohawks back out in front. with an„pnassisted got1. Shelburne tied the game at 2-2 on a goal by Howard Giles at 2:26 of the second period. • Mohawks then took command when Ron Goodhand scored what turned out to be the game -winning goal at 5:22 of the second, from Jeff Warren and Bili Glover. Less than a minute later, Glover scored his first of threeon the night, from Kris Bedard and Good - hand. Barton notched his second of the night, from Wilker and Rander- sqn, at 11:02 of the second,to make it. a 5-2 game. - Wilkcr then picked up his second, from Randcrson and Barton at 15:49 of the second. It stayed that way until 7:02 of the third, when Bedard scored an un- assisted goal. Shelburne then got another past Mohawk goalie Bill Dark, Larry Lougheed getting his first of two; before Glover completed his hat trick later that period. Glover's sec- ond goal came at the 15 -minute mark, from Goodhand and Dale Timmermans and his third was a blistering 'slap shot .that Shelburne goalie Colin Black had no chance to stop, while Mohawks were short- handed. Bedard picked up the only assist. Loughced scored his second goal of the game with just 13 seconds. left to make the score a little more respectable. Glover and Goodhand both played Sprts outstanding gamcs for Mohawks. Glover picked up the hat trick'and hustled all night, while Goodhand had one goal and two assists and was constantly causing chaos in front of the Shelburne net and giv- ing Black fits. Mohawks outshot Shclhurnc-34- 27 over the three periods. . Mohawks will be out for revenge in their next game Friday, when they play host to the Harriston Blues at the South Huron Rec.Cen= ire. Blues handed Exeter their only loss so far -this year,.a 7-6 loss No- vember 5 in Harriston. Game time is 8:30 p.m. Sunday, Mohawks travel to Grand Valley for a 7:30 game against -Harvesters. Huron CFarmers play host to broomball tournament HENSALL - The Huron Country Junior Farmcrs played host to a broomball tournament at the Hen- sall Arena on Saturday and took the C division championship. Teams from Middlesex, Waterloo, Oxford, Halton, Central Welling- ton, Perth and Huron all took part. Each team played two or three times during the regular round and the team with the most points after their regular games advanced to the "A" final. The two teams with the next amount of points played in the "B" final' and the next two teams met in the "C" final. Thehosts played Middlesex in thcir first game and won that game 2-1. In their only other regular game, Huron lost to Halton 2-0, which gave them two points and a spot in the "C" final. in the other regular games, Oxford beat Waterloo 4-2, Central Welling- ton bcat Waterloo 4-2, Oxford beat Perth 4-1, Middlesex beat Halton 4- 0, and Oxford beat Central Welling- ton 4-2. After the regular round, Oxford had six points, winning three times and they played Middlesex in the "A" final since they had four points. Central Wellington and Halton met in the "13" final and Huron played Perth in the "C" final. Waterloo and Perth were tied for last after the regular round but Pcrth beat Waterloo in a playoff to face Huron in the "C" final, but Huron played bad hosts in beating Perth in the "C final 2-1, scoringbothgoals in the last 10 minutes of the gamcs. Lucan Irish split pair LUCAN - The Lucan Irish split their pair of Western Junior D Hockey League games last week. Last Wednesday, Lucan whipped Seaforth Ccntcnaires 10-1 at the Lu,:,, can Arena. Friday night Mitchell Hawks dumped Irish 6-2 in Mitch-. ell. Lucan led 2-1 after the fust period in Mitchell, but Hawks tied the Lucan Cup set LUCAN - Organizers arc gearing up for the Lucan Cup Senior Men's hockey tournament, which is set for the Lucan Arena December 2-4. The winning team will receive $4,000 and the Lucan Cup, the run- ner up will receive $1,500. The winning team in the B Division will receive $1,000 and Village of Lucan Trophy. • Teams returning from last year in- • • elude; Fon Eric, Brooklyn Flyers Welland, (last year's champs), Lon- don Doug Crossman All Stars, and teams playing' for the first time this year include Kitchener, Cambridge =Hornets, Dresden Hornets,. which has former NHLer Ken Houston playing on it and Guelph. Ticket prices arc $3 per day for games and there is a dance also slat- ed for the Lucan Arena Saturday night, 9 p.m. to 1 a:m. game at 2:21 of the second and took the lead for good at 17:23 of the period and never looked back. Irish were shutout the rest of the way. Brian Shuyler scored the first Lu - can goal, from Todd Hayter and Jeff Hirtzcll. Scott Dcnomy scored the other Lucan goal, while shorthand- ed, from Brad Muir. Despite the loss, Irish remain in first place in thc Western Junior D Hockey League, with 20 points, one up on Mitchell Hawks. Next game for the Irish is tonight when they play host to the Exeter Hawks at the Lucan Arena. Game time is 8:15. Friday night Lucan travels to Wellesley for an 8:30 p.m. game. Fosters dart tournament On Saturday, November 9 (at the Exeter Legion) there was a Singles dart tournament held. Sponsored by Carling O'Keefe. There were sixteen players involved. Pee Wees beaten by St. Marys EXETER - The Exeter Legion Pec Wees were beaten 7-1 by St. Marys Wednesday night at the South Huron Rec Centre. St. Marys got three goals from Jon Schiedel a pair of goals from Billy Jordan and single goals from Drew Sorenson and Ken Slater in downing Exeter.
