Want to CLINTON - A united Church congregation in Lucknow has for- mally requested that the Huron County Board of Education keep the Lord's Prayer in the classroom. The Church's action came as a re- sult of a controversial court ruling which stated the prominence of one prayer, such as the Lord's Prayer, in schools, discriminates against non- Christian students. The Ontario Court of Appeal struck down a section reading: "A public school shall be opened or closed each day with religious exer- cises consisting of the reading of the Scriptures or other suitable read- ings and the repeating of the Lord's Prayer or other suitable prayers." Respecting the spirit of the deci- sion the Ministry of Education has advised boards that "any readings or prayers must reflect the multicultu- ral realities and traditions of Ontario `society, and one religion must not be given a position of primacy." The official board of the Lucknow United Church asked that the HCBE consider the church's opinion when Van Roestel display baking at Wednesday's Penny keep Lord's Prayer making decisions about opening ex- ercises in Huron County. "We strongly feel that this is an important part of any student's life and should remain as such," said Rod McDonagh, a member of the church board, in a letter to the board. The HCBE is awaiting guidance from the Ministry of Education, and will soon be receiving a listing of FiSHER - AUCKLAND Janice Edith Auckland and Randy Scott Fisher were united in marriage October 15, 1988 at Talbotville Unit- ed Church. San- dra Damen and MaryLou Malone were the brave leaders of our club. We had seven '"'Tr (embers. The president was Kelly Malone and our vice-president was Amy Crawford. Other officers included Marianne Damen, Peggy Malone, Erin Port- er, Katie Malone and. Vicki Hod- gins. All together, we were "The Wonderful Whalen Meat Fleet". Our meat -cooking club created dishes such as "Terrific Tacos", "Beef Kabobs", and "Pizza Soup". We fed these tasty dishes to our families who liked them and even lived to tell how delicious they were. At our sixth and final meeting, we had a party to celebrate the suc- cess of the club. We tried two dif- ferent fondues at this party that were a neat treat! This 4-H club was a lot of fun.
