Zurich to apply
for PRID
ZURICH - A new appficatio
to receive a PRIDE grant was ap
proved Thursday night by Zuric
Village council.
Reeve Bob Fisher said the
$210,000 grant if received would
be used for the Zurich municipal
drain, sidewalks and repair and pos-
sible expansion. fo the auditorium
at the Zurich arena.
In the minutes of the Zurich Hy-
dro and Water System it was re-
vealcdthat the insurance policy
with the Municipal Elet•tric Asso-
ciation Reciprocal Insurance Ex-
change be. renewed using Option A
S0 deductible with a .premium for
1989 of. 5274.
System chairman Herb Turkhcim
reported- to council that a new
pump would likely be purchased
with a cost in the range of
S 12,(X)0 to S15,000.
Turkhcim continued, " It's some-
thing the new council will deal
with. The biggest part of the cost,
will come. from surplus funds.
There will be no debentures neces-
sary. At the' worst it would bc.a
hank loan. it will also
he a bigger , :) . than we, now
have." -
Council passed a bylaw increas-
ing thc members -at -large on the
Recreation , Parks and Communi-
ty Centre board from three to four.
This bard has also approved the
purchase of air exchangers for the
arena auditorium not to exceed
S5,900 in cost. _

n Through the streets, sidewalks
- and drain committee, road superin-
h tendent Dennis Regier was author-
ized to complete some road patch-
ing and padding on John street,
south and clear up a drainage prob-
lem on John street north.
Mothgack Development Corpo-
_ ration will be charged $25 for
snow plowing a portion of Park-
side Avenue for the year 1988-89.
Council received a copy of the
response to the Review of Conser-
vation Authorities as prepared by
the 11 conservation authorities in
the Southwest Region.
This response will be dealt with
by the full meeting of the Ausable
Bayfield Cosnrvation Authority in
Clinton on November 25.
Discussioq took place on a new
agreement concerning the Hay
township landfill site. Council
will agree to an annual fee of
S9,500 to be locked in until
1992:
The rate paid by Hay township
is expected to be $10,0(0 per year
for the same period. To this Reeve
Bob Fisher commented, " We
have always been paying S500 a
year less than Hay township."
Council has been advised by the
Ausable Bagicld Conservation
Authority that the application
from Mothgack Development
Corpora4on to construct a residee-
tial subdivision has been ap-
proved.

Blue Water bake sale keeps crowds happy
ZURICH - Saturday brought a ray
of sunshine to the Nome when a
large number of people turned out
for the 22nd annual bake sale and
tea sponsored by the Ladies:Auxil-
iary of the Home. The winner of
the cake made and donated by Mary
Lou Erb was Donna Klopp. Joanne
Bengough was the winner of the
crib quilt donated by Gertrude Fleis-
chauer. Winners in the Penny Sale
were as follows: Wall hanging,
Verda Baechler, mobile chime bells,
Mary Gingerich, Cheese -basket, Iva
Latta, rose in holder, Rose Marie

face Parish attended a dinner meet-
ing in Stratford Thursday November
10 for the annual Stratford and Dis-
trict Right to Life meeting. Over
300 people came to hear a terrific
speaker, Dr. Heather Morris (assist-
ant professor of Medicine at U. of
T.)
