Petite Ringettes beat Mitchell
The Exctcr Petite Ringette team
managed a win against Mitchell on
Saturday and a tic, Sunday at Sca-
forth.
In Exeter's 9-6 win over Mitchell,
Cara Gardner played an outstanding
game with four goals and two as-

Miners with three goals and one as-
sist. single efforts came from Son-
ya Lawrence and Judi Wilson.
Leeann Foster, Jana Webster,
Cheryl Wcin, JoDec Rowe, Wilson
and Lawrence each assisted in the
scoring efforts. Amy. Edwards was
the winning goaltendcr.
Sunday's game in Seaforth was a
tight goaltendcr's battle.
Exeter's Jana Webster and Sca-
forth's Marcie Cronyn saw many
shots.
Scaforth jumped into the lead
with goals from Jennifer Marion,
Michelle Frie and Kelly Rau. It
took Exeter most of the first half to
get together, but with three minutes
left, -Gardner started Exeter off with
an unassisted effort. -
Just 2'30 minutes later, Leeann
Foster connected. Another goal
from Gardner in the second half end-
ed the -scoring. Amy Edwards and
JoDce Rowc did well on defence for
Excter.
On Saturday Exeter heads for For-
est for a 4:30 p.m. game.
Mini Hawks
tie Blyth 1-1
HURON PARK - The Stephen
Mini Hawks played Blyth to a 1-1
tic at_the .Stephen Township Arcna
on Saturday, in Atom Division
hockey.
The first two periods were score-
less but both sides had good scoring
chances and it was excellent back
and forth hockey.
Blyth took a 1-0 at 10:28 of the
final period with Calvin Schmidt
doing the damage for the visitors.
The Mini Hawks finally tied the
contest for good on a solo effort by
Billy Connor.
Neither team could come up with
a goal to win the contest.
Mini Hawks received some excel-
lent goaltending by Tommy Con-
nor and a total 100 percent effort by
the whole team.

Panthers advance to semi-finals

EXETER - Following the close
of regular season play for Huron -
Perth girls basketball, South Huron
District High School's junior•and
senior teams advanced to quarter fi-
nal games. On Friday, the senior
girls travelled to St. Marys and the
Junior girls headed to Listowel.
Even though - it took the first
quarter for 'the senior Panthers to
get into the game, it was full speed
Tweens tie
After a first game of the season
loss to Scaforth, 9-0, on Sunday
the Exeter Tween Team ended in a
5-5 tie to Forest on Sunday.
Forest's Heather Hill scored first,
with Exeter's Jill Sararas assisted
by Janice Sanders, and Cathie Wil-
son assisted by Michelle Bowerman
scoring, putting Exeter up 2-1 at
the end of the first period.
In the second period, goals by Ex-
eter's Michelle Bowerman, assisted
by Cathie Wilson, Jill Sararas, as-
sisted by Janice Sanders, and Cathie
' Wilson assisted by Michelle Bower-
man marked a 5-2 score for Exeter;
Forest's Tanya McKellar scored
two goals and Judith Laird, added a
-single goal, making a 5-5 tie.
Exeter Twe,en's third game of the
season ended in a 8-3 loss to Mitch -
.ell on Sunday. Cathie Wilson
scored the first goal, with Michelle
Bowerman assisting. Jill Sararas
scored the second and third goals,
assisted by Janice Sanders.
Everyone on the team is doing a
fine job, and the two goalies are su-
per in net. We're looking forward to
the "ringette season".
Next game is in Clinton on Fri-
day at 7 p.m.

South Huron continued to outplay
St. Marys to win 39-25.
Laurie Forrester, led South Huron

The junior girls claimed an easy
win with very little difficulty. The
Panthers took a very convincing
14-5 lad in the first half of play.
The gids continued to dominate the
game in the second half to win 39-
19.
Julia Memer played another su-
perb game scoring 22 points. Jen
Taylor followed Merner with eight
points and Laurie Lovie added. four.
Both teams advanced.to the semi-
fjnal round, held yesterday (Tues-
day).
