Seniors club
meets
By JOAN at
Y BEIERLING
VARNA - The Stan -Lee club met
at the Complex on November 1
with 32 in attendance. •
President Anna Keys opened the
meeting by reading the poem Heath
of the Flowers. Anna Keys and El-
mer Ilayter brought a few of the
highlights from the Zone Rally
held in Exeter on October 1'4. Sev-
eral Stan -Lee members had attended
this event.
Plans for the December meeting
were discussed. A motion by Elmer
Hayter, seconded by Alex McBeath,
that they follow the same plan as
previous years with dinner to begin
at 6:30 p.rn. was carried.
Bob Reid volunteered to look af-
ter phasing the turkeys.
Anna Keys introduced the guest
speaker for the evening, Earl Oesch
of Zurich. For many years Earl was
the _ village barber. Some of his
faithful customers still call on him
for a trim.
In 1975 Earl began his hobby of
wood carving. He and his wife Do-
reen had brought a number of his
completed projects for everyone to
see. Several species of ducks, Cana-
da geese, loons, a beautiful eagle
. (which is not for sale) were a few of
his masterpieces.
On another table he displayed a
team of horses and individual horses
as well as other items. Some of
these were sold or have been ordered
for Christmas presents.
Oesch talked about the knives he
uses in his work and demonstrated
how he carves these birds and ani-
mals from various pieces of wood.
Picking up a small electric pencil
like a burning tool, he showed how
he created feathers on the birds.
This he finds more effective than
carving.
Finally comes the painting of the
products. Some are left in their nat-
ural state and varnished:
Allan Armstrong expressed the
appreciation of club members for

S4.25 per pound. We have started
baking and are eager to do more.
Birthday greetings go out this
week to Lela Abbott, Marg Dinney,
Joe Bruce and Roxie Weber. Happy
birthday to staff members Jeanne
Towers and Pat Campbell.
We were pleased to have the Male
Singers from the Christian Reform
Church sing to us last Wednesday
evening. We enjoyed hearing the
men and hope to see them again.
Thought for the week: The differ-
ence between a luxury and a neces-
sity is - whether I have it or my
friend has it.
