EXETER - A bad second period
cost the Exeter Hawks a victory
Friday night when they played
Brussels Bulls at the South Huron
Rec Centre..Bulls had five shots on

three times. Hawks eventually lost
the contest 5-4 after falling behind
5-1 heading into the third.
Saturday night, Exeter was
crushed 10-2 by Tavistock Braves
-in Tavistock.
"We played another bad second
period and it cost us the hockey
game. But we arc a young team and
that is a sien of a young team. We
have to start learning how to play
60 minutes of hockey," said Hawk
"coach Jack Nairn.
Injuries and the flu bug have also
hit Exeter in the last week. Five
players played against Bulls with
mild cases of the flu. Brian Quinn
missed the game because he broke
his ankle last week in Seaforth and
is expected to be out eight weeks.
Brent Nairn is out indefinitely with
mononucleosis. -

Field hockey team drops quarter -final match

On Thursday and Friday, the
South Huron District High School
field hockey Panthers participated in
the all-Ontaajo field hockey tourna-
ment in Cambridge. The girls won
their first three games but bowed
out losing in the quarter -final
game.
The Panthers began on Thursday
with a win over Grand River 1-0.
Scoring was Tina Campbell and Ni-
cole Rosie records the shut out.
A 2-0 victory over O'Neill
brought South Huron their second
win of the day. Scoring once again
, was Campbell and Kim_ Crawford
added one for the defeat.
In the final game of pool play,
South Huron met St. Catherines.
Jeannette Kaak scored two goals and
Campbell" added one but Crawford
scored a stunning five goals to [cad

LUCAN - On Saturday, six bowl-
ers from the executive of the Lucan
Five -Pin Bowlers Association trav-
elled to Toronto's O'Connor Bowl-
. ing Lanes to take part in an "Execu-
tive Bowl" sponsored by OV and

Ontario took part in this annual

but South Huron came up short in
sudden death overtime. The team
felt they had out played Forest
Heights but simply were unlucky
in the end. Forest Heights went on
to play an extremely tough semi-
final game against Agincourt Colle-
giate.
Forest Heights won the game 1-0
time.
The tournament was also a learn-
ing experience for all the teams as-
the
sthe championship bantluet brought
the goalkeeper of Canada's field
hockey team, Sharon Bayes, to
.speak to the girls and their coaches
on her experiences on the Olympic
team.
Liz Witmer, a'graduate of South
Huron welcomed the athletes as the
present chairperson of the Waterloo
County Board of Education. -
Althoughithc Panthers ended their
season on a sad note, they had an
extremely successful season and
will he gunning for the opposition ,
again next year.

EXETER - Once again the South
Huron District High School's Sen-
ior football team walked over their
opponent to win the Huron -Perth
semi-final game against Stratford
Central on Thursday. The Panthers
played full out to record a 37-0 shut
out.
It wasn't until the second quarter
that South Huron began scoring. •
Dave Bryson began with a two-
point safety. Doug Regier ran in a
four -yard touchdown followed by
another seven yard touchdown by
Rob Wonnacott. Jon O'Connor
kicked the convert to lead South
Huron at half 15-0.
The Panthers continued to domi-
nate all aspects of the game in the
sccond half. Dan Weigand brought
South Huron a two -yard touchdown
While O'Connor made another con-
vert
The Panthers were still running
strong in the last quarter as Tim
McAllister caught a four -yard pass
to make another touchdown as SH
kept pouring it on.
A convert pass from Harlon Tin-
ney to McAllister gave the Panthers
a two-point convert.
'Finney completed another pass to
Dave O'Connor for. a touchdown
and Jon O'Connor made the con-
vert, to make it a 37-0 victory, for
SH.
Head Coach, Ron Bogart, declared
a "Superjob on defence!" Good hit=
ting; coverage on passing and kick-
offs, three interceptions and few
penalties all contributed to the shut
out. Norm- Atkins led the Panthers
with 11 key tackles, followed by
Joe Gower with nine and Brent
McDonald with tight.
Bogart also felt that the offence
put forth an excellent effort display-
ing various offensive attacks and -
executing plays well.
Wonnacott led Sit with 18 carries
for 105 yards, followed by Regicr
with. 12 carries for 52 yards.
In all, Panthers put forth an ex-.
ccllcnt team effort to advance them
to the Huron Perth final game. The'

EXETER - South Huron -District
High School's Junior football team
ended their season in a semi-final
match against Stratford Northwest-
ern on Thursday. The juniors trav-
elled to Northwestern, only to re-
turn home with a 28-6 loss.
South Huron did an excellent job
of scoring North Western on the
first play of the game. This special
play gave the Panthers an early lead
on a 45 -yard pass from Pctc McAl-
lister to Todd McCann for the
touchdown.
Unfortunately, Northwestern
scored immediately following on a
long run and once more before half-
time to make the score 14-6.
South Huron was close again in
the third quarter. The Panthers
could have had first down on the
three -yard line but the pass was
Northwestern scored early in the
fourth quarter to make the score 21 -

6. In spite of some questionable
penalties, Northwestern scored on a
long run with two minutes left in
the game.
. Despite what the score reflects,
head coach Dave Cox, felt it was a
good.game for his team. The Pan-

thers made few mental mistakes and
received only. one penalty. They
completed eight of •1•3 passes and
had good vardagc-on the. eronnd
