Reports from the Grand Bend Churches By Roberta Walker Church of God GRAND BEND - Sunday morn- ing worship at the Church of God was opened with the words of Psalm 95 "O come, let us sing to the Lord; let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation," read by Rev. Desjardine. George Wine - garden led the congregation in the singing of hymns. Two young in- strumentalists, Jennie Bumstead and Marcie Donald, presented the hymn "Faith of Our Fathers" on the piano and flute. Lucille Vincent sang a solo "Turn Your Eyes Upon Je- sus". In his sermon, the pastor gave four reasons for the church to be in- volved in evangelism, taken from the Scriptural passage II Corinthi- ans 5:11-21. God wants to use the members of His church to proclaim His message of the Gospel. In the evening, Rev. Stan Desjar- dine did a study on what Jesus said about the Ten Commandments, given to Moses by God. A time of fellowship followed the service. On Saturday nights, the church is continuing to show a series of vide- os produced for parents as help to them in dealing with teens, and the sexual problems and pressures they face today. Anyone from the com- munity is welcome to attend. Women of the Church of God will meet Thursday night at 8 p.m. Bible Study The community Bible study was held last Tuesday morning with 16 ladies present in the Sauble Court lounge. Prayer and a hymn sing preceded the lesson, led by Ethel Lennox, Changing Our Attitudes d'n Serving: Martha's Story from the "Open Up Your Life" series on' hospitality. Reading scripture excerpts from John, Matthew, Timothy and Luke, they saw a new and changed Martha serving Jesus. Martha's faith was restored and we remember her will- ingness to duty and service. Mrs. Lennox closed with prayer remembering the sick and shut-ins. United Church A very good attendance was out for the occasion of the 61 Anniver- sary of the Grand Bend United Church on Sunday morning. Guest speaker was Rev. Margaret Mariya- ma, who was serving at the Victor- ia Avenue United Church in Chat- ham. Her sermon was titled "Witnesses for Christ" from scrip- tures Acts 1:1-8. Special music was provided by Mrs. Sue Ann Brenner, with two inspiring solos, accompanied by recorded music. Tne children's story, as told by Rev. T. Smits. was about the for Lest we forget • and the grapes, and being greedy. The fox ate so many grapes that he couldn't get through the fence until he lost weight. We bring nothing into the world, and we must leave it all behind before we can enter eter- nal life. The young people's group served coffee and refreshments after the ser- vice. The door greeters were Bob McKay and Brian Peuren. Catholic News There were two guest celebrants at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church this weekend, while Father Beck was conducting. a Women's Cursillo in Sarnia. Father Dale Crampton, chaplain of Mount' St. Joseph in London, celebrated the Saturday evening Mass. Father Mel Maclsaac, of St. Jo- seph's, Stratford, was celebrant at the Masses on Sunday. Walt Co- stello was reader at 11 a.m. Mass, and organist Paul Dietrich was also cantor. The choir sang "Gift of Finest Wheat" at communion. In his sermon, based on the gos- pel story of the "Widow's Mite" Fa- ther Maclsaac explored the whole idea of gift giving, especially at Christmas. He suggested that we be a little less generous to our- selves this year, and more generous of our time and money to the poor and disadvantaged. Those are the gifts most appreciated by Jesus, to the "least of my brethren". The C.W.L. executive met at the home of Sally Johnson on Monday evening, to plan the Christmas par- ty.
