Change retaining walLdesign
GRAND BEND - During its regu-
lar meeting last Tuesday, village
council was told that the cost of ten
wccks of work by the summer co-
ordinator was $2,334.45.. A grant
was approved by Employment and
Immigration Canada in thc amount
of $1,592 to help cover the cost, so
the total amount owing from Grand
Bend is only S742.45. Reeve Harold
Green said "it was money well
spent."

• Council was advised through a
letter that.the design of a proposed..
440 foot retaining wall made of
wood and steel, to be built along
the base of Grand Bend hill, must
be changed and instead of 6" I
beams every eight feet, they will be
.put in every four feet.
Along with other changes, this
must be done to prevent predicted
slippage of the wall.
Due to the redesign of the wall,
thc price will also be changed. The
addition will cost an estimated
S10,000, according to public works
foreman Bud Markham, laritcly due
to the amount of steel doubling.
Markham went ori to -say that the
new design will not mean crum-
pling walls should water levels in
the lake start to rise.' The design
should also allow up to 25' of levet
parking spaces. -

Councilor Shirley Mitchell ex-
pressed concerns over the "closed for
season" sign that hangs at the tem:
porary OPP station on Main St.
"People have told me that having a
sign like that is only inviting trou-
blc to happen," said Mitchell. Green
said there was nothing that council
could do, "putting that sign up was
strictly up to the. OPP." •
That sign .was stolen from off•the
building but later returned.
Mitchell also said she .was very -
pleased with the new paintings on
the side of the walls at the minia
turc golf course on Main street.
Mitchell said, "it really spruces up
the arca makes the street look a
