Bend Guides, Brownies, Beavers, .
Cubs and Scouts; and their leaders,
joined the • Legion representatives to
march into the church Tor a special
Remembrance Day service. The
pastor, Father Paul Beck, welcomed
the group to the Church.
- The reader tor the Mass was Mr.
J. Bannon, joined by his wife as
Eucharistic Ministers during Com-
munion. The cantor was Roberta
Walker, who performed two solos,
''Alt My Days" and "The Holy •
City"
During the service, Brent Daniel
MacLauglin, infant son of Dinict
and KimberlyMacLaugiin, received •
the sacrament of Baptism, and.was
warmly welcomed with applause
into the church community:
Father Beck's sermon was based
.upon Deuteronomy 6:2-6 and -Mark
12:28-34, the fundamental teach-
ings of Christ, -to love God with -all
our heart, soul, mind and strength,
and to love our n.cighbor as our-
selves. _ • u .
Organist Paul Dietrich accompa-
nied the choir and congregation. •
• After the Mass, .the Legion mem-
bers led the way to the Legion hall,
to treat all the youngsters and their
leaders to a brunch. They wcrc very
pleased with the [umout.
On -Sunday afternoon, Father
Beck held a meeting for 18 high
school students, from Exeter, Sar-
nia and Forest, at the Alhambra
• Hall. _They heard several speakers
from Alcoholics Anonymous dis-
cuss the pitfalls inherent in alcohol
abuse -and the dangers of drinking
and driving. •Refreshments were
supplied, and the young people got
a chance to visit and exchange
views. Another meeting is planned
for November with Father Vincent
Van Zuphthcn as guest speaker:
-During Friday to Sunday of next
weekend, Father Beck will be con'
ducting a."Women's Cursillo" in
Sarnia. Father Dale Crampton and
Mel Mclsaac will be here to cele-
brate the weekend Masses. ;There
were special Masses said on Tues-
day and Wednesday this week, to
commemorate "All Saints' Day"
• and All Souls' Day," with many
-Parishioners attending.

• Sunday services at the Grand Bend
Church. of God were held at the reg-
ular times of .1..1 a.m. and 7 p.m.,
• with Pastor Stan Desjardine preach-
ing at both services. Michelle Vin-
cent and Beth Desjardine prbvided
'the special music for the morning,
singing_"I•Am .His to Command".
The morning message centered
around the theme "The Legacy, of
Peace" -that Jesus left. His followers,
as in John 14:27, "Peace 1 leave
with you, My peace I give unto
you, not as the world gives - let not
your heart he troubled, neither lot it
be afraid."
Ivan Shari7,w gave a reading at
• the evening service. The congrega-
tion looked at. several Bihle'vcrses
that amplify the meaning. of the
word "Christian" and explained the
• question "What is a Christian?"

held on. Monday, November 7 at
6:30- p.m: at -the Church of •God.

Bible • Class
There were 17 ladies out for the
Bible study last Tuesday morning at
the Saublc Court _lounge. Eleanor
Ditwic opened. with, a.praycr, and.
Millie Desiardinc led with a hymn
sing. •
They began a new lesson, ."Atti-
tudes in. Serving: Martha's Story"
from • "A Woman's Workshop on
Hospitality". in scripture readings
from Luke and John they examined
Martha and Mary's attitudes. when
Jesus and His disciples were -guests
at a meal. -
They also discussed the miracle of
Jesus raising Lazarus, from the
dead. Ethel Lennox was the discus-
sion leader, and she closed the ses=
cion with prayer.

good time. •

pher and Melissa of Elmira, visited
on the weekend with Suzanne's par-
ents, Ferman and Lcota Snyder,
also with her brother, Jim and Judy
Snvdcr and family.
We have a new neighbour. Lisa
Ann Marie has arrived to live with
her parents. Jim and Judy Snyder
and brother Nicholas. '
Ferman and LoetaSnyder attended
a session of the Billy Graham cru-
sade held at Hamilton last weekend.

Dinner party for Varna 4-H

VARNA - The last meeting of
the Varna 4-1-1 Club was held in the
form of a dinner party at Varna
United Church on October 24.
Each member brought a friend who
was not involved in 4-H.
The girls prepared hamburgers,
Caesar salad and chocolate milk-
shakes for their guests.
A shoe meeting was held follow-
ing the meal to discuss plans for
their achievement night to be held
December first.
