Mary Sehl, chairperson of •the committee, said estimates that one in eight Canadian women is beaten by their male partners have enor- mous implications, not just for the families affected, but for the entire community. "Society pays•for the hidden costs of family violence through lowered productivity in the labor force and increased use of medical care, the courts, police, and social agencies," she said. Three representatives from Lon- don's coordinated, multi -service ap- proach to family violence, a pro- - gram which has received international acclaim, will be fea- tured at the forum. They include Bob Gough, Director of Changing Ways, a program to stop male vio- lence; Marion Boyd of the Battered Women's Advocacy Clinic, a unique non -crisis, non-residential counselling' service for battered women; and Inspector John Robin- son of the London Police Force, which.has led the way.in laying as- sault charges against perpetrators of family violence. Don Keillor, di- rector of the Huron -Perth Centre for Children and Youth, will moderate the session. -Sohl said the forum will provide an opportunity for community members to talk • and learn about family violence, its dynamics, and long-term effects. The Family Violence Committee is a subcommittee of the Huron County Community Services Council. Wea r a Poppy for Remembrance QUEEN'S SEAFORTH THURS., FRI. & SAT.
