Letters to the Editor Dear Editor: The closure and privatization of federally operated rural post offices is an important election issue! it is an economic issue! .... Cana- da Post says it is not abandoning rural Canada, but "improving ser- vice". "Canada Post is in rural Canada to stay, that's a promise!" As of September 30, 1988, 20 of- fices have been closed and no alter- nate counter service'is bcing provid- ed it is a seniors issue! .... Super - mailboxes arc galvanized, our sen- iors arc'not! Struggling with a su- permailbox on the side of a snow piled highway is difficult and dan- gerous! (as in St. Margaret's Bay, N.S.) it is an employment issue! .... when Canada Post's government ap- 'provcd plan is fully implemented, over 10,000 -rural jobs will be lost across Canada! it is a labour issue! .... Retail postal outlet operator Randy Arcand of Cclista, B.C. says, "it (retail postal outlet) is a lose -lose situa- tion for us. If we had it to do .all over again, we wouldn't! We Ned rural postmasters reinstated!" . It is a national unity issue! .. The post office is the only federal presence in some communities. (n- one Quebec town recently, a sup- porter of rural post offices summed it up this way, "Tell Mr. Mulroney that if he takes away my post of- fice, he can take away the FLAG, too!'. Rural Canadians deserve better than this! .... The question is: HENSALL MOTORS LTD. "Car and Truck Rentals" Leasing - New, all makes Sales - Used Cars and Trucks 198 Main St. N.
