help from Philip Elder Sunday morning. It was the last Sunday for Rev.
Brian Elder and family. They have moved to a new charge in Port Dover.
Hurondale WI meets
EXETER = Hurondale Women's
Institute met at the Exeter Branch
Library for their October meeting.
Librarian Helen Hodgins outlined
the history of the library stating
that it was built on Bawden proper-
ty with Carnegie funds.
Helen explained the arrangement -
of the books on the shelves and the
kinds of books found in each
• group.
The services include loaning fic-
tion, juvenile paper hack, Targe
Iprint, talking and multilingual.
books, magazines, records, films,
video, pamphlets, and reference ma-
terial. Books may be borrowed
from across the country through our
local branch.
Membership is fret and loaned
material May be renewed but over -
dues are charged a small fee.
The Agriculture and Canadian In-
dustries committee led byFMarilyn
Pym and Anna Ballantyne was in
charge. "A way to improve our ed-
ucation now that our school days
are over, was answered by different
suggestions but each involved the
ability to read.
Helen Hodgert gave the motto,
"Education means developing the
mind not stuffing the memory".
She further enlarged upon the neccs-
sit to know where and how to find
information now that it is so quick-
ly outdated.
First Vice -President Marjorie Oke
chaired the meeting. Reports of
the Rally at Hensall were given by
Fern Dougall and Elsie Westcott
and of the Convention at St. Thom-
as by Erlma Keller and June Stew-
art
The previous meeting was held at
the Bluewater Centre for Young Of-
fenders where Co-ordinator Barbara
Forbcs explained her duties. and the
operation of the Centre. We were
divided into groups, each led by a
youth, to tour the facilities, school
and grounds.
We were pleased to learn that the
emphasis is on rehabilitation and
education and that tach may achieve
credits and graduate as at any other
secondary school.
The boys served coffee and cook-
ies and Laiira Sillery expressed our
thanks-. -
Grace Richardson chaired a short
meeting. The roll call was an-
swered by, "Little things that make
life beautiful." The motto "Help
today's youth, remember we were
yesterday's youth. Our grandchil-
dren are the future" was taken by
Marion Porter assisted by Anna
Ballantync and Elizabeth Lamport
after we had enjoyed dinner together
at Bayfield.
Hensall Church
HENSALL - Rev. Mark B. Ga-
skin from Alberton, P.E.I. preached
for a call at Carmel Church on Sun-
day, October 30.
The choir sang the anthem "Under
His Wings" accompanied by Caro-
lyn Love at the organ.
A lunch and fellowship hour fol-
lowed the service when the congre-
gation from Cavcn in Exeter joined
with the Hensall congregation to
socialize with Rev. Gaskin and his
wifc Cathy.
The P.C.W. group will meet at
Carmel Church in Hensall on Mon-
day, November 7 at 8 p.m. Roll
call to be answered with a verse
from your favourite hymn. .

Mr. and Mrs. Jack Jesney, Exeter
and Vicky Collett, Crediton, re-
turned home from holidays in Eng-
land. Jack spent most of his holiday
in hospital but is doing nicely.
Glad you're feeling better Jack.
Sympathy is extended to the fam-
ilies of the.late Mr. Wray Sweitzer
of RR 2 bashwood. Mr. Sweitzer
was the dear husband of Madeline
(Rundle) Sweitzer and dear father,
father-in-law and grandfather of Mr.
and Mrs. Don Dundas and children.
Mr. Sweitzer passed away Thursday
at South Huron Hospital, Exeter
and was buried in Crediton Cemet-
ery. Harry Hoffman Funeral home
was in charge and Rev. R. Peebles
officiated.
Mrs. Stan Preszcator visited Fri-
day with Mrs. Mary Bird, Vanastra.
Sunday visitors with Mr. and
Mrs. Stan Preszcator were Mrs.
John Arbo, Woodham and Mr. and
Mrs. Carl Farr, St. Thomas, who
were supper guests.
Sympathy is extended to Mrs.
Lloyd Roeszler who lest her broth-
er-in-law.
