of ties with Lucan
EXETER - The Exeter Novice
Waxers picked up a pair of 3-3 ties
with Lucan on the weekend, in Lu -
can on Saturday and" in Exeter on
Sunday.
Lucan opened the scoring in Sun-
day's game when Craig Miller
-. 'shored 46 seconds into the contest,
after being set up by Kelly Camp-
bell.
• Greg Geoffrey tied it for Exeter at
8:31 of the first, after taking a pass
from Mark Parsons..
Lucan regained the lead just 15
seconds later, when Ryan Carroll
netted one after being set up by
Ryan Thomas and Matt Porter.
It stayed that way until Carroll
made it 3-1 for Lucan five minutes
into the middle fume. Brandon Recd
earned the only assist.
Exeter's' comeback started at 3:54
of the third period, thanks to the
work of Jeff McLean. After bring-
ing Exeter to within one goal, he
scored the equalizer just nine sec-
onds later to.eam the tie.
It was Exeter that started the scor-
ing on Saturday. Goeffrey had the
honors at 2:46 of the first, with
help from Mark Parsons and Geoff
Mauer.
Ryan tied the contest at 1-1,
when he.scored the only goal of the
second period unassisted, at 4:33.
The teams split the four goals
scored in the third period. McLean
scored for Exeter,. at 1:24, from
saver..
Four minutes later, Cory Smith
scored for Lucan, from Chad Green-
lee and Scott Thompson.
At 9:12 of the period, David Far-
quhar put Exeter up 3-2, with help
from McLean.
Greenlee tied the contest once and
-for all at 11:55 of the third, while
Smith picked up the only assist.
Sr. Girls win again
LONDON. - The South .Huron
District High School Panthers Sen-
ior. girls' cross-country team won
another Western Ontario Secondary
School Association team title on
Friday in the WOSSA meet held at
Fanshawe College.
The Panthers' team had ten _run-
ners take part at WOSSA and six
of those have qualified for the All -
Ontario finals, to be held this week-
end in Kingston, because of fine
performances in London. .
Rosemary Regier had the best fin-
ish of any Seniorgirl, placing sev-
enth. Also qualifying for the trip to
Kingston were: Kim Van Dongen,
10th at WOSSA, Brenda Vanderlaan
1 lth, Michelle Chalmers 19th, -Ra-
quel ,Thompson 20th and Deanna.
Olmstead 24th. Also placing well
for the Senior girls but not qualify-
ing for OFSSA were Debbie Regier
29th and Sandra Roseboom.
In all 66 runners took part in the
enior girls' race.
'The Senior boys' team placed
fourth overall .at WOSSA on Fri-
day, but Larry Miller placed eighth
individually and just missed a spot
-in the provincials. Scott Welling-
ton placed 15th, Scott Regier 54th,
Jason McFalls 56th, Skip Pavlik
67th, Scott Hayter 69th, Richard
Hope 71st, Andrew Oswald 81st and
Wayne Scotchmcr 82nd.
The Senior boys' race had 95 run-
ners take part.
Charlene Regier 14th -place finish
was the best of any Panthers in the
Midget girls' run, out of the 106
that took part. Carrie -Lynn Du-
charmc was 18th, Leanne Peckitt
58th, Anna Szabo 77th and Shonyn
'Baynham 99th.
Dan Vanderlaan was the only
Midget boy to take part from the
Panthers and he placed 23rd out of
107 runners.
Panthers beat Redmen

On Thursday; South Huron Dis-
trict High School's Senior football
team took on the Norwell Redmen
at SH for the Huron -Perth quarter-
final game. The Panthers defeated
the Redmen 24-6 to make their
record 5-0.
After receiving the opening kick
off, SH made a good drive down the
field but were not successful.
SH's defence played exceptionally
well in the second quarter as Nor-
well kept possession for the whole
quarter but failed to score.
The third quarter put both teams
on the scoreboard as Norwell made
a 35 -yard touchdown. Joe Gower
blocked the convert to keep the
score at 6-0. Finally SH came alive
putting 24 points on the scoreboard
before tt,. c..1 of the quarter.
Doug Regier started the Panthers
off with a five -yard touchdown. A
two-point convert on a pass from
Harlen Tinney to Tim McAllister
put the Panthers ahead 8-6. Next.j
Dan Weigand came through with a
two yard touchdown and Jon
O'Connor kicked a one point con-
vert.
Following a 60 yard kick off by
O'Connor, Glenn Hayter gave SH
safety on a tackle in the end zone.
At the end of the quarter, Rob Won-
nacott ran in an eight yard touch-
down and O'Connor kicked another
convert to make the final score 24-
6.
SH put together a couple of good
plays in the fourth quarter, moving
the ball well, but failed to score,
therefore winning 24-6.
O'Connor led the team with eight
key tackles, followed by Brent
McDonald with seven and Dave
Bryson with six.
The team is now in first place.
They meet Stratford Central at SH
on Thursday in the Huron -Perth
semifinal game at 2 p.m.
