EXETER - On Thursday, South
Huron District -High School hosted
the Huron -Perth. cross=country--
mcet. South Huron was only one
of 11 teams participating :from- the-
conference. Almost all of South
Huron's runners qualified to advance -
to the Western Ontario meet held at
Fanshawc Conservation area in
London on October 28. .
- South Huron's Midget Girls ran
well placing third as a team to qual-
ify them -for Western Ontario Sec-
ondary School Association. Char-
lene Regier. place fourth, Carrie
Lynn Ducharme fifth, Leanne Pick-
itt 1 1 th and Shonyn Baysham
24th. Maureen O'Reilly of St. Mi-
-chaeIs placed first anctherteanl also
finished first overall. • -

EXETER - Last Tuesday, South
Huron District High School's field
hockey team welcomed Norwell for
their final regular -season game to
decide first place.in the Huron -Perth
league. The girls came up on top
of a 2-0 score.
The Panthers played well despite
the rainy weather conditions. Nor-
well, known for being a defensive-
oriented team, -allowed Kim Craw-
ford to score in the first half of -play
on a penalty corner.-
The

chance at a penalty stroke. She .
tookadvantage of the stroke, scor-
ing South Huron's final goal.
This game lead the Panthers to the
semi-final game on Thursday.
Lucan Lanes gearing up
LUCAN - Lucan Lancs is in high
gear for the 1988-89 Bowling sea-
son.
In -the next few weeks several
tournaments take place.
The Hi -lo Doubles -sponsored by
Hiram Walkers Starts the season
off followed by OFPBA's Team
Tournament and Callings OV spon-
sored Sun Bowl. -
Sevcral bowlers haveliegun their
bowling year with some great sin-
gle games: Ron Mason, 37h: Kevin
Lightfoot 374: Judi Wells 346 and
Cheryl Smith 333 - a great way to
get rolling!
Panthers win semi-final

EXETER - On Thtytsday, the
girls' field hockey team of South
-Huron District High School, wel-
comed Listowel for the Huron -Perth
semi-final game. The Lords were
no competition for the strong
South Huron District High School
teats. The Panthers .claimed an
easy victory, winning 6 -0. -
Leanne Dietrich started of South
Huron's scoring spell. taking advan-
tage of a penalty corner. Dietrich
scored after in the first half on a
goal shot past the Listowel goalie
into the bottom left-hand comer.
Tina Campbell and Jocllc Lam-
port also scored in the first half to
make the score 4:0 at halftime..
The second half of play brought
two more goals for South Huron,
the first by Shannon McBride and
the second by Lisa Ellerington on a
pass from Suc-Annc Soldan.
This game advanced the girls to
the final Huron Perth garlic held
yesterday (Tuesday) against St.
Mary's. The girls automatically ad-
vance to the Wcstani?Sntar,o Sec-
ondary School Asso: is:ion Ima.
