Shipka by Mrs. Hugh Morenz
The third meeting of Grand Bend
I11, 4H, was held Thursday evening
October 18 at Susan Gill's. The
meeting began.at 7 p.rn., and the
members and leaders watched a vid-
eo which showed six different ways
of preparing lamb dishes. •
Bonnie ad Susan broke up the
members into 2 groups. One. group
prepared meat loaf the other pre-
pared liver.
While enjoying the two dishes we
discussed Achievement night which
is to be- held on November 22 at
Stephen Central -School.
The members were happy to wel-
come a new.inember, Jaqueline Van
Denbcrg. I would also like to add a
name to the list of members that I
had forgotten to include, Cook
Book organizer, Connie Russell. •
Reported by Pam Dietrich.
Personals
Bruce and Judy Russell have had a
harrowing and _frightening-experi-.
ence, being in Jamaica when hurri-
cane Gilbert struck. Bruce won the
trip from Esso Oil Company. They
flew down to Jamaica on Sunday
September 11, landing at Fal-
mouth, between Montega Bay and
Ocho Ria. - -
Storm warnings began coming in
that night and by Monday night die
_ storm had reached its peak. They
moved to a safer hotel called Tre
lawny. Their patio doors were brok-
en and they had to carry water to
their room.
They -saw trees down and uproot-
ed, roofs off, lots of flooding with
pavements lifted off the roads. Judy

said it was sad to see the native
people trying to pick up their
things and begin again.
Bruce and Judy spent a lot of their
week's holidays helping to pick up
after the storm -and just last week
they had a thank you letter for their
efforts, ' -
They flew home on Saturday Sep-
tember 17. Even though they felt
scared the whole time they felt God
was with them, and said they would
-both like to go back sometime.
They feel specially thankful to
the Russell grandparents (Cliff and
Velma) for caring Lor their two chil-
dren, Mark and Crystal, to Grandma
Norma for taking care of things at
their Thome and to the people at
Faith Tabernacle Church in Central-
ia who offered prayers for their safe
retum.
Harold Vincent, Greg Ratz, Gor-
don and Harvey Vincent from this
arca, Carman and Larry Lovie and
Earl Thompson from Grand Bend
area returned home after a 10 day
.hunting trip in the arca of Mara-
thon on the north shore of Lake
Superior.
Last week I attended a miscella-
neous bridal shower for. my niece,
Diane (Finlayson) Gilliland, held
at the home of her mother; Mary
Finlayson, in Scaforth. About 20
relatives were in attendance. Diane
and Stephen March will marry No-
vember 5 in Burlington.
Visiting Hugh and I.an afternoon.
last week were two school girl
friends, Minnic (Sangster) Noakes,
and Helen (Munn) Fcrringo, of
