Only minor injuries in three car erah
EXETER Property damage was
high, but personal injuries were mi-
nor in a three -vehicle chain reaction -
accident at 3.20 p.m. on Wednes-
day, October 19.
Officers of the Exeter detachment
of the Ontario Provincial Police re-
port -the vehicles _were driven by
Norma Miller, Grand Bend: Harvey
Thompson, RR. 3, Zurich and Har-
old Lightfoot, Centralia.
Treated at South Huron Hospital
in Exctcr for ininor injuries were

power and water to the .OPP sta-
tion, bathhouse, washrooms and at
the north dock for the winter.
He also addressed concerns from
Judd Bumstcad, at the Toronto-Do—
minion Bank on Crescent Street,
about flooding in the bank's park-
ing lot every time it rains and Bum -
stead felt it was the village's re-
sponsibility to do something about
it.
Markham said,"the lot looks like
a.coffcc percolator after a rain," but
added he has Iobked into the prob-
lem and bund. that the roof of the
public school drains,ontothe TD
parking lot but insisted it is not a
municipal problem.-.
1`Markhant .suggested that council
invest in renting &street cleaner for
two or three days to clear -the kick -
log of leaves and sand_on the street
before the snow starts to fly.
Markham also pointed out that
some.residents have left appliances
Set criteria for ARCA rep
EXETER.- At a recent meeting,
representatives of the town of Exet-
er and the townships of Usborne
and Blanshard agreed on the criteria
-to be used in naming a representa-
tive to the. Ausahle Bayfield Con-
servation Authority from the three
municipalities.
Beginning January 1 of 1989,
the membership of the Authority
will he cut considerably necessatit=
:ung joint representatives. •
Clerks from Exctcr and _Usborne_
are to advertise every two years in
the Exeter Times Advocate and St:
Marys Journal Argus for interested
citizens from_thc three municipali-
ties to apply in writing giving de-
tails of their time; interest in con—
servation and committment to do
the job. Application shall be open
to any councillor from the munici-
palities as well.
At their first meeting in Dccem-
ber, each council :shall appoint a
council member to the selection
committee who shall he charged
with the- responsibility of screen-
ing- the applicants, interviewing, --if
necessary, choosing a suitable rep-
resentative and reporting to each
council by the middle of Decem-.

-Term of appointment shall be
for two years and the appointee
shall -report to the respective coun-
cils once a year or oftener if any
council so requests.
A meeting has been set for De-
cember 9 at the-Ausablc Bayfield
Conservation Authority board

sult with the Ministry of Agricul-
ture and Food regarding compatibil-
ity of thc housing policies with
preservation of farmland policies.
Council rnembcrs were updated
on the financial status of the Kirk -
ton -Woodham swig sting pool and
.were advised that S4,(XX) had been
sent to Blanshard township for ap-
plication to the overdraft and. loan. .
Decision on a severance applica-
tion from Donald and Joyce Brown
was deferred until further informa-
tion is acquired. •
The date of a public meeting to
hear a rezoning_ application from
Gerald Francis was changed to No-
vember 15 to accommodate notice
requirements.
Council was-adyised that hunting
licences for rabbits and pheasants
would not be available ,in Usborne
township this year. it is recom-
mended that a representative of the
Ministry of Natural Resources he
asked to attend a meeting early in
1989 to discuss the possibility i l
becoming a regulated township for
hunting purposes.
A development agreement for the
proposed Ross Carter .farm imple-

"They would never allow a hunt

is a way to get the herds down. It. is

gross vehicle weight truck chassis
without trade.
Stephen Lodge of.the Ministry of
Municipal -Affairs was in attendance
*to discuss" the province'sPRIDE
program and explained why last
year's application was turned down.
Council will be making a new ap-
plication, but has not decided on
which area of the township will
benefit. PRIDE grants are available
for revitalization of certain specific
areas. - • -.
A letter of appreciation .will he
sent to Gordon Hill and Debra Rath-
well for their assistance in setting
"up the initial niecting.to discuss -the
-township's Sesquicentennial celebra-
tions set for 1992.

EXETER - At -the latest meeting
of the Exctcr and arca fire board, fire
chief Gary Middleton expressed con:
cern that the Fire Services -Adviser
for Huron, Middlesex and Elgin
counties had resigned and will not
be replaced by the Ministry of the
Solicitor General.-
Middleton reported that all chiefs
in the arca were going -to find this
an inconvenience as seminars previ-
ously offered through this position
will no longcr.he available.

township indicating they. may be
willing to.assist with the .purchase
of a new fire hall to the extent that
monies would he saved. from not
repairing the old lire hall.
Mickle sought the feelings of
the fire txoard in respect to a prop0-
sal of ttrc town of Exeter -financing
a new lire hall and leasing it back
to the Exeter and Area -Fire Board
for tfic period of time required to -
pay off the financing.
-Board_ mernhc_rs indicated the
agreement would need tea he opened
up and amended and the pros and
cons-of.thc proposal would have to
he weighed in relation to giving fi-
nancial assistance- up front.
