SH's senior football team
whipped Listowel on Thursday 40
to zero to give them a 3-0 record
and place them first in the Huron -
Perth conference. •
SH dominated the game both of-
fensively and defensively. With eve-
ryone .playing, several players
showed they could do their duty
when called upon. The offensive
line did a good job of blocking al-
-lpwing many 'urge gains for the.
Panthers.
The team put their best foot for-
ward in the first quartet -as 'Jeff Den
Otter ran in a nine -yard touchdown
and quarterback Haden Tinney made
a one yard touchdown. John
O'Connor made both converts to
make the score 14-0 for the Pan-
thers:
South Huron proceeded to outplay
the Lords as Doug Regier scored on
a live, yard touchdown run and
O'Connor kicked the conve rt.' Regi-
er led the team with 109 yards rush •

The third quarter brought two ad-
ditional touchdowns.'The first on a .
13 -yard pass to Tim McAllister and
the second a 17 -yard run by Dave

Tinney" scored . -the final touch
down on a 1 5 -yard run. Tinney led
the team with two touchdowns and
also did a good job in Calling plays.
The senior Panthers are scheduled
to play in Norwell on Thursday.

hopes off to a (lying- start Sunday
night when they doubled up on the
Durham Huskies 6-3 at the South
Huron Rec Centre.
Not -.only was it an important -
Rec Centre. Bak managed to clear the puck, but the Mohawks won the con-
test '6-3, getting the season off on a winning note.

Panthers' basketball team
come up big at Mitchell

• Last Wcdncsday, South Huron's
Midget Junior and Senior girls has-
kcttiall teams travelled to Mitchell
for three league games. -
As the senior teams entered this
game; their records wcrc two wins
and two losses, both losing to
Stratford Central ad Stratford North-
western.
Fortunately it was the Senior
Pan'hcrs day for victory. The girls
Tilayed aggressively, witminb 3::1--
25. At halt time, the Panthers had
opened a convincing lead of 13-8.
- During the last half -of the game,
South- Huron frequently stepped to
the foul line. where they picked up
half of their total points.
Laurie Forrester played well, scor-
ing l8 points.
Thc Junior girls also played very
aggressively putting forth a good
effort but unfortunately. Mitchell
had little difficulty, out playing the
Panthers offensively. '
Julia Mcrner and Carrie Lovie
played well. Mcrncr was quick on
her feet, scoring many points off of
steals.
Merner was also high scorer with
17 points, while ..Amy Campbell
and Sheryl Oke 'both had four
points. Thc Junior Panthers arc
now 1-4 in regular -season play.
South Huron's Midget girls camc-
up a few points short against the
Blue Devils. Coach, Pat Rowe,
felt the game showed a more orga=
nized attempt than their previous
•games. 'i'he girls played tough

Stacey Rader performed well and
was tied for top :scorer with six
points. Kerry Manders also scored
six points, followed by Angela
Gould with five and Karen McKay
with three. •
The next league game for girls
basketball is today (Wcdncsday) at
South Huron, against Stratford
Central.

Panders beat St. Marys

cessful league game against St.
Marys,. winning 4-0. • '
The girls played an aggressive
first half but only. led 1-0. on a goal
scored by Leanne Dietrich. • •
The team's effort paid off in the
second half of play. as the Panthers
put it. together, scoring three con-
secutive goals. Scoring were: Die-
trich, Tina C'arnphcll and Marcie
Ellison. Nicole Rosie recorded the
shut out for South Huron.
The team met their next challeng-
er on Thursday in the 1N1itchcll Blue
Devils. South Huron's first goal
by Tina Campbell. came quite early
in the game. This was only the be-
ginning as Campbell proceeded to

During first half play, South Hu-
ron's defense kept thc game mainly
in Mitchell's end. allowing very
few shots on their net. Mitchell's
goalie kept the Bluer Devils in the
game in the first half, blocking
many of the Panthers direct hits on
net.
Thc second half of the game
brought some of South Huron's
less experienced players to the field.
The team continued to play togeth-
er. bringing the Panthers another
goal before the cnd of play. Shan-
non McBride picked up a goal for
South Huron. Also playing well
was Kim Lingard. Tonya Richt re-
corded the shut out.
Thc Panthers record is now five
wins and no losses, with 21 goals
for. and orae against.

To make things a little easier for
Exeter, Durham was 'missing six of
their players Sunday night, many of
whom were deer hunting. -
The Mohawks' line of Dave Ran-
derson, Paul Barton and Quincy
Wilker clicked well all night, pick-
ing up 10 points. Randerson led the
way with three goals and one as-
sist, Barton had one goal and two
assists and Wilker chipped in with
three assists. -
Mohawks' dcfencemen Marc
Soehner and -Barry Baynham each
contributed unassisted goals to help
thc Mohawks to victory.
But four second -period goals by
Exeter turned out to be the differ-
ence in thc game. -
Our other lines weren't clicking
too well tonight and to have de-
fcncemen score our first two goals
really gave us a - boost," said

EXETER - The Exeter I-fawks put
. together back-to-back solid team
performances last week and came
away with a split of their two
Western Junior D Hockey League
games. -
Last Wcdncsday they scored five
times in the third period to beat
Mitchell 8-1, in Mitchell, thanks in
large part to some fine goaltending
from Todd Campbell in getting
their first win of the season.
Friday night in Exeter, the Hawks
battled from behind all night but
couldn't catch thc Tavistock Braves
eventually falling 6-5.
The Hawks trailed at one point 5-
2 and camc back to close the gap 5-
4. Thcn the Braves regained at two-
goal advantage at 6-4 before The
Hawks came back to narrow the gap
to a goal once again mid -way
through the third period but couldn't
come up with thc equalizer.
After Friday night's tough loss,
Hawks' coach Jack Nairn said three
bad goals cost his team the game.
"We gave up three or four bad
goals tonight which -really hurt us.
We played fairly well and if you
score -Mc goals you should be able
to win," said Nairn.
In the future we have to keep
working at getting our goals
against down but we arc a young
team and' that wilt come. Overall 1
weasaddehadppy with the effort though,"

Derck Shackleton led the Hawks
with a hat trick Friday night while
Jeff Slater and Jim Lewis added sin-

Dan Nairn opened the -scoring for
Exeter on the power play, from Joel
Campbell and Jim Lewis, at 18:13

Just 25 seconds later, John Hep-
burn made it 2-0, from Jeff An-
scms.
Anscros made it 3-0 when he
scored the only goal of the middle
period, from Dalrymple and Frank
Wultcrkcns, which was another
power -play tally.
The third -period onslaught started
at 1:37 when Anscros scored his
second, from Wultcrkcns and Hep-
burn.
.Mitchell's Jeff Taylor finally
slipped one past Campbell at 4:42 -
of the third, ruining the shutout
hid.
Dalrymple then scored two
straight goals just over a minute
apart. ON was set up by Slater and
Jim Dickens and the other sct up by
Clark- and Anscms.
. Clark then picked up the team's
seventh goal of the night at 18:17

country•runncrs attended the South-
Banting cross-country meet. The
team turned in some good results
for•South Huron.
South Huron's Senior Boys'
placed third overall. Larry Miller
brought in South Huron's best plac-
ing with third, out of 110 runners:
