Times-Advocate, 1988-10-19, Page 9Exeter Seniors host fall rally of Ontario clubs EXETER • The 13 Fall Rally of Zone 8 United Seniors of Ontario was held at Exeter Legion Hall on Friday. Zone 8 President, Elmer Hayter opened the meeting with 0 Canada followed by the.Lord's Prayer and One Minute Silence in memory of departed friends. • Rev. Richard Hawley of Exeter United Church chose, "Time" as the theme for his message and poems. Greetings from the town of Exet- er were brought by Mayor Bruce. Shaw. Guest speaker, Ross Haugh, edi- tor of the Exeter Times Advocate was introduced by Exeter president, Pat Skinner. Ross recalled high- lights of earlier years interspersed with stories and jokes to the delight of the Seniors. Courtesy. remarks were given by Zone Ist. Vice President John Deeves. Keith Rowntree reported on the Contention and° Percy Blowdell read the brief sent to parliament re- garding Sunday shopping and seven of the resolutions. Irene Davis, Past President of Zone 8, led in. prayer which closed the business meeting. An hour of fellowship, euchre, croquinole and cribbage followed. Prizes were given for high and low scores. Winners in the draw for boxes of groceries were Ruth Arthur, Exeter; Ida Godhin, Clinton; Marguerite Horton, Goderich; Irene Davis, Hensall; Margaret Elliott; Stan Lee. Varna; Edythe Beacom, Lon- desboro; Blanche Deeves, Holmes- ville; Gladys Skinner, Exeter; Greta Miller, Dashwood; Margaret Swan, Goderich; and Mary Neil, Exeter,' Refreshments were served by Ex- Teter Seniors. Ailsa Craig UCW A1LSA CRAIG - When the Ailsa Craig United Church Women and their friends went home from the October Thankoffcring meeting likely they would be getting their needles out to begin working on a quilt block given to them by Mr. Don Powell. Don Powell from the Memory Linc Quilt Company was the guest speaker at this meeting and he brought with him many quilts to display. Two of the pat- terns were Bouquet of Violets and My Mother's Rose. see quilt display Don explained step by step how a quilt kit is made from the drawing board to the printed material. Mary Sutherland used the theme Thanksgiving for her worship ser- vice. Mary Rees and Sharon Craven read passages of scripture pertaining to Thanksgiving. After each person made a list of some of their bless- ings, Mary gave a few thoughts on Thanksgiving and read a poem enti- tled Horn of Plenty. President Donna Cox reminded everyone that our Christmas Cup- board Bazaar will be held on No- vember 19 and Mary Sutherland an- nounced that Christmas -puddings would be made again this year. Everyone hada chance to visit and look at the quilts while Yvette MacGregor and members of Unit One served a cup of tca and some lunch.
