saves stamps

ELIMVILLE - The Elimville
United Church Women met recently
at the church. The stewardship and
finance committee were in charge.
Sharon Lynn opened the meeting
with a poem "Being a Christian".
Joan Skinner read a scripture read-
ing on Christian giving, followed
by an article concerning the same.
Sharon led in prayer. Joan read an
article "Let's talk money".
A film presentation "Partners" on
stewardship and mission and service
proved very informative. Sharon
and Joan then discussed thc situa-
tion of a Canadian youth and an Af-
rican youth. This part of the meet-
ing closed with a prayer.
The United Church Womcns pur-
posc was repeated by all. Sharon-
opened with a pocm "Change".
The roll call was answered by
"Name a fund-raising idea". Many
different suggestions came from
this roll call. -

24 at 6:30.
The next meeting will be our
Thanksgiving meeting and the roll
call will be to turn in our calendar.

'i VARNA - Sten Lee Club met at
the complex on October 4 with 36
people in attendance.
President Anna Keys welcomed
everyone, then read a humourous
poem "How Bob Carved the Duck".
Thanks was extended to all who
had assisted with program and lunch
at Huron view.
The Fall Rally is to be held in
Exeter at the Legion Hall; October
14. Registration begins at 12:30
p.m.
Bob Peck gave the treasurer's re-
port.
Allan Armstrong was winner of
the door prize. Several games of
euchre were enjoyed. High prize
winners were Grace McClinchey
and Bernice Reid. Low prize win-
ners were Ruth Johnson and BEa-
trice Dalrymple. A bounteous pot
luck lunch concluded the evening.
The next meeting will be Novem-
ber 1. Mr. Earl Ocsch of Zurich
will be the guest speaker. He will
demonstrate his wood carving.

Dashwood WI hears about Holland

DASHWOOD - The Dashwood
Women's Institute met at the Com-
munity Centre October 4. The In-
ternational Affairs Comntittee asked
the 1$ members and visitors to an-
swer the roll call by naming their
favourite foreign dish.
President Mrs. Katherine Becker
gave- .a welcome "A Salute -to the
Seasons` centred around nature, our
lives and work of the W.I.
Mrs. Martha Weigand gave a re-
port of the Fall Rally. Six mem-
bers accompanied Martha and assist-
ed at the donated article sales table
which realized $166.20. The 1989
Fall Rally will be hosted by Huron
East in Ethel.
Mrs. Weigand introduced the spe-
cial speaker, Mrs. Bert Visscher,
who spoke on her recent trip to
Holland. -
Mrs: Weigand read a poem on
how Thanksgiving started, and the
changes made during the years.
Articles from other countries were
on display. Prizes from a draw of
articles made by the committee
went to Mrs. Aldenc Wolfe, Kathe
rine Becker and Ruth Stire.

Minutes of the previous meeting;
were read and approved. An an-
nouncement was made by the secre-
tary Voyle Jordan for the dessert
euchre and bake sale at Saintsbury
on October 12 at 1 p.m.
Birthday greetings went- to Rose
Atkins and Mary Meicklc.
A card for Alex Youngs 90th
birthday -was signed by•the mem-
bers.
Hazel Cunningham gave the
treasurers report, adoption of which
was moved by Harry Noels. •
