Strathroy led 2-0 after the first pc- riod, on goals .by Paul McQueen, from Ryan McChesney and Bryan Campbell unassisted. They upped •it to 3-0 when Scott MacCharles scored the only goal of thc second period, from Greg Higgs. - Strathroy made, it 6-0 on three early third period goals. Jamie Bos- ton scored from Campbell, Mac - Charles scored from Campbell and Higgs scored from Campbell. Exeter finally got on the board at the 11:15 mark when David Farqu- har picked up an unassisted tally. Joey Bierling • and Luke Sims shared thc goaltending duties for Exeter. Michelle - Ellison - EXETER On Thursday, the cross-country 'cam attended a large Meet held at the KitchenerOctober- fest with 90 schools participating,. causing each race to contain up to 450 runners. Thcsenior girls placed 13th as a team. Running for SH were Brenda Vanderlaan placing 36th, Rosemary Regier 37th, Sandra Rclouw 93rd and Sandra Rooseboom 113th. Leading for SH's senior boys was Larry Miller finishing 34th. He _ was -followed by Scott Wellington 51-st, Jason McFalls 118th and Richard Hope 137th. •I'hc senior. boys placed 10th overall. As a team SH's junior boys placed l 1 th. Bringing in the best. times were Dan Vanderlaan 17th, Craig Rcdick 107th and Shawn McFalls 162nd. The- junior girls ran well placing eighth as a team. Kim VanDongcn finished 43rd, Deanna Olmsted 75th, Michelle Chalmers 76th and Raquel Thompson 78th. Charlene Regier placed 31st, Car- rie Ducharmc 36th, Leanne Peckitt -62nd and Shonyn Baynham 240th for SH's midget girls. These plac- ings brought the girls a 12th place team finish. Two run- ners in the Senior Boys' race show the strain of the 5.5 kilometers they • had to run. $500 DONATION - The Stephen Township Arena, in Huron Park, re- cently purchased a new sound system totalling $6,500 and were asking for donations to help pay for it. Norm Hyde, left, of the Stephen Township Fire Department, presents a $500 cheque to Gord Rook, of the arena board. Also making $500 contributions were Stephen Minor Hockey and Cooke's Division of Gerbro. Exeter wins half of running titles EXETER - Exeter won three of the six titles in the Pubic School Goss -country run held last Wednes- .f•iy behind the behind the South Huron Recreation Centre. Exeter won the Senior Boys, Sen- iors Girls and Junior Boys team ti- tles; while Stephen won both the Intermediate- Boys and Girls and 11 n�,tll was -the Junior Girls win- ter. Jamie Dougall, from Exeter, was the individual winner in the Senior Boys race. Lisa Forrest, also from Exeter, was the Senior Girls win- ner: Schoolmate Michael Coolman placed first in the Intermediate Boys race and Cara Gardner; of Stephen, was victorious in .the Intermediate Girls. Phil Ingram, from Hensall, was first in the Junior [toys and Elizabeth Lovie , from Zurich, cap- tured first place in the Junior Girls. Races varied from 15-5.5 kilom- eters in length. Panthers entertain Goderich Vikings Hy Michelle Ellison - EXETER - On Wednesday,. the Goderich Vikings returned to SH for girls•basketball. The senior girls played a highly competitive basketball game show- ing the. Vikings their potential. At one point in -the game SH was down 11 points and were trailing by seven points at three quarter time. The girls made a tremendous comeback in the fourth quarter; tie- ing- the game 35 to 35 in regular time • In the three minute overtime, the Panthers held the Vikings at 35 as Laurie Forrestor threw some good foul shots and found the basket more than once, to lead the girls to a 41 to 35 victory over Goderich. Forrester put forth an -outstanding• effort, scoring 27 points. She was followed by Sonya Shantz with six and Heather Rideout with four. The junior girls played hard in their game against the Vikings. At. half time -the girls were still in•thc- game only trailing by seven points. But in the second half of the game Goderich gained- a substantial lead wirning the game 39 to 27.. Top scorers for SH were Julia Mcrner with nine points, -.Leigh Rose- with seven and Jen Taylor - with four. The midget girls had some trou- ble against Goderich's midget team. Although neither team played "good basketball", Goderich racked up thc points winning 51 to 17: Stacey Rader and Karen McKay were top scorers -with four points each: .
