CLINTON - The question of what
equipment is right for your land is
best answered by yourself. You are
the one who knows what conditions
it has to function in and what your
land is capable of.
To assist you in making a deci-
sion on which conservation tool
would work on your land, the Hu-
ron Soil and Water Conservation
District has set up a demonstration
day. The day will consist of active
demonstrations involving dealers
from throughout the Huron -Perth
• County areas. Tools included in the
day range from modified mould-
board plow, disc chisel plows, no -
till drills and deep -till tools.
This event is scheduled for Thurs-
day, October 13 with demonstra-
tions running in the morning from
10-12 andjn the afternoon from 1-3
p.m. The demonstration will be lo-
cated eight miles east of Exeter on

KIPPEN - It's hard to believe that
October is here already! The sum-
mer flew by in spite of the heat,
and September gathered momentum
with back -to -school activities, and
fall fairs are now history. The farm-
. -ers are looking to the skies hoping
for several dry days in a row so that
soya beans can be harvested and
winter wheat sown. The leaves
which are turning beautiful autum-
nal shades will soon be fluttering to
the ground, ready to be raked into
piles or left for the wind to blow
them away. This is one of my fa-
vourite seasons of the year.
4-H clubs have started again for
the fall.
Sherri McLachlan, press reporter
for Kippen 3 4-H club, reported that
the leaders for this club "Much Ado
About Meat" arc Barb Moffat and
Mary Helen McLachlan. Thc club
has 16 members in this club.
The first meeting was held at
Brucefield United Church on Tues-
day, September 27 starting drith
' mixer games, then going on to
more serious matters like the elec-
tion of officers.
President is Kris Gemmell, vice
president is Patricia Wynja, treasur-
er is Candace Cooper, secretary and
press reporter are floating not lit-
erally of course! This means that a
different person is elected at each
Meeting to hold this office.
They made the recipe for Terrific
Tacos' and sampled them when
cooked. Comments on the tacos
were "really good" and "terrific" as
the name indicates.

Alblas publishes first book
HURON PARK - While he tries
to steer away from the term
"poetry", the first collection of
Jay Alblas' verse will be pub-
lished this fall under the name
Stargazer.
The book, printed by Stephen
Printing in Exeter, will contain a
selection of what Alblas calls
"contemporary verse": lyric forms
Alblas says can be easily put to
music, even though he doesn't
write music himself.
Featuring a black glossy cover,
the book will encompass 10 years
of Alblas' work. The earliest
piece was written when he was
just 13.
"Now that I look at it, it's not
very good," said Alblas, but he in-
cludes it mainly to show readers
his progress over the years. All
of the lengthy poems are dated,
but not arranged in chronological
order.
"The subject matter is every-
thing from nuclear war to broken
up relationships," noted Alblas,
_hoping some of his topics_will in-
spire some serious thinking from
his readers.
Stargazer is expected to be 85-
90 pages. One poem alone will
stretch over ,five pages. Alblas
will be printing 200 copies, a
hundred of which have been sold
already. The price will be $10 or
$11 to cover the costs of printing
and repaying the bank loan which
has made the project possible. He
points out Stargazer is not a mon-
ey -making venture.
"I'm not planning on a second
printing," said Alblas of his first
attempt at publishing. He says a
future collection might feature
some of his more controversial,
and best, work.
"My best stuff I don't think peo-
ple would appreciate right off the
bat," he said.
Alblas says his goal is not to
seek recognition for his poetry,
but instead to print a permanent
record of creative efforts he has
collected over the years. In a good
year, Alblas says he can write
around 50 lyrics, but from last
November to March he was in-
spired to write nearly 200, a rare
spurt that left him exhausted but
teachers have been supportive of
his efforts, according to Alblas.
He hopes to continue counting on.
that support once the book is de-
livered.
JAY ALBLAS - He doesn't like to refer to his work as poetry, but Alblas is
publishing his first collection of his work this October.
determined Jo assemble some of it "They're probably getting sick
in book form. of me talking about it by now,"
Friends and past high school he said, laughing.
