place third overall
at Fanshawe meet

EXETER - The cross country
team also attended the Clarke Road
meet held at Fanshawe Conserva-
tion area on Thursday. -
Anna Szabo placed 17th for S H's
midget girls.
Bringing in the best time for the
midget boys was Dan Vanderlaan,
placing 14th.
The junior girls all ran well with
Kim Vandongcn. fifth, Raquel
Thompson 19th, Deb Regier 25th
and Michelle Chalmers 34th. These
placings brought the junior girls a
team finish of third.
Brenda Vanderlaan ran another
great race placing fifth. Sandra Re-
louw also finished 14th . for SITS
senior girls.
As a team, the senior boys placed
third with Larry Miller fourth,
Scott Wellington 15th, Scott Regi-
er 51st and Scott Hem 72nd.
Broncos hold lead
from first period
EXETER - The Exeter Broncos
won a hard fought defensive battle
against St. Marys by a score of 2-
1
The Broncos opened the scoring
in the first period when Adam Jean
connected on a pass from Brent Ur -
lin.
St. Marys tied the score in the
second period but Marty Debruyn
scored on a solo dash in the third
period. With seconds remaining,
Rob Lynn saved the On as he
cleared the puck from the open net.
Jason Lindenfield and Michael
Schwindt shared the goaltending.
Chris McDonald,. Eric. Clay, and
Marty Debruyn played exceptional-
ly, while the .Broncos played two
men short for a full two minutes.
The next home game is. Sunday,
October 9 when the Broncos take
on Strathroy at 4:30 p.m.
Long distance runners
do well despite injuries
EXETER - Last Monday, South
Huron's long distance runners head-
ed north to a meet held in Godcrich.
Despite a couple of minor injuries,
the team ran well.
Richard Hope place 18th, Jason
McFalls -19th and Wayne Swtchmer
22nd 'for the panther's senior boys.
Rosemary Regier brought in a
second place -finish for South Hu=
ron's senior .girls.
Skip Pavlick placed 23rd for the
junior boys.
Raquel Thompson, Deanna Olm-
sted, Deb Regier placed seventh,
cighth, and ninth respectively for
the junior girls. Michelle Chalm-
ers -also placed 1 l th to give the jun-
ior girls an overall second place fin-
ish.
Craig Redick finished 1 1 th,
Shawn n McFalls 16th and Jim Ah-
rens 22nd for. South Huron's midget
boys.
The. team is looking forward to a
successful season for midget girl
