This is the best result South Huron has turned in for at least 20 years. The event was held at Stratford Tennis Club. In boys singles play, Said Osman met a Huron -Perth finalist in the fist round and was knocked out ear- ly. Jason McFalls played three matches before he was knocked out in the quarter finals. Their final game in pool play, - the girls met Parkside Collegiate -and won by a score of 3-0 on goals scored by Kim Crawford and Tina Campbell with two. In semi final play, the girls de- feated Central Elgin 1-0. Kim Crawford scored for SH. This ad- vanced SH to the final round of play. •. Here they met Medway for the third time this season. As before the Panthers were victorious win- ning 2-0 in overtime making this - their second tournament win in as many weeks. Leanne Dietrich and Kim Crawford scored for SH. Seniors dominate at Wingham EXETER - All three South Hu- - ron girls basketball teams travelled to Wingham for their second league games of the season. All teams came up successful. The senior girls dominated thcir game. playing well offensively and defensively..Thc girls lead by only a narrow margin at half time but managed to take over in the second • half winning 40 to 23. Top scorers were Laurie Forrester with 1fi_•points; flcather -Rideout with six -and Spring Cushman with five. The junior girls played 'a tough basketball game against Madill. Trailing by one basket at half time, SH showed their potential coming hack -to a 26 -12 victory. Top scorers were Julia Merner with seven points, Sheryl Oke and Carric Oke with foul -points a piece and Jen Taylor with three. South Huron's midget girls played an outstanding game defeat- ing Madill 57-21. Stacey Rader and Kerry Manders were top scorers with 12 points each. The girls began their tournament play with an easy victory over Wal- kerton. Laurie Forrester played a su- perb game, scoring half of South Huron's 50 points. Behind Forrester were Michelle Ellison with eight Foints and Heather Rideout with five. The girls also had little difficulty out -manoeuvering their next oppo- nent Wiarton. The team played tight defence, keeping Wiarton from scoring too many points. Once again Forrester outscored everyone scoring 16 points. Kerry Dietz scored sewn points and Christine Rose and Shelley Skinner each scored four making the final score 35 to 15. This led the girls to the final game of the tournament against General Amherst. it was definitely an even match with both teams playing aggressively to the end. Unfortunately, for SH, the 'Lady Gems" pulled ahead in the last quar- ter winning the gold medal by a score of 28 to 23. Scoring for SH were Laurie For- t Juniors downed by Sarnia . By Michelle Ellison EXETER - SH's junior girls bas- ketball team also travelled to F.E. Madill in Wingham for an invita- tional tournament on Thursday. and Friday. For their first game on Thursday, the team met Walkerton. SH easily defeated Walkerton by a score of 36 to22. Top scorers were -Julia Merner with 10 points, Angie Bell and Carrie Oke with six, and Amy Rid - Icy with four. . Friday SH played a very competi- tive game against Sarnia St. Clair. Both 'teams played well but SH' claimed the win with a score of- 37 to 31. The girls advanced into the final round of play and met _Sarnia Northern. - Unfortunately, they couldn't keep up with the strong Sarnia team los- ing 32-16. Waxers get win over St. Marys EXETER - Thanks to a three goal splurge in the third period, the Ex- eter Waxers downed St. Marys 4-1 in the°first novice game of the new Shamrock hockey. season. After a scoreless first period, Ge- off Maver_ opened the scoring for the Waxers at the 21 second mark - of the second session on a pass.. from Mark Parsons. - Mark Robson notched.the equalizing score for St. Marys. - An unassisted goal from the stick of Jeff MacLcan proved to be the winner for the Waxers near three minutes of the final framer - A three-way passing combination at 6.04 put the Exeter club two goals up as Geoff Maver registered on passes from Mark Parsons and MacLean. _ The fourth goal was fired by Greg Geoffrey with the assist going to - Scan Guenther. - ' Luke Sims and Joey Bierling shared goal tending duties for the Waxers -as the entire team turned in an excellent _effort for their first start of the season. For- rester scored a total of 54 points in three games which also made her top scorer of the tournament. Stratford no trouble for South Huron EXETER - South Huron's Field Hockey team welcomed Stratford Central last Tuesday for a league game. Once again, the team had little difficulty defeating Central. Scor- ing for SH were Joelle Lamport, Kim Crawford, and Tina Campbell. Central scored in the second half of the game to make the final score three to one. , Thursday, the girls continued a succesful season easily winning an- other league game against Stratford Northwestern. The goalie, Nicole Rosie, received only one shot on net from Northwestern. SH out- played Stratford winning the game six to zero. Scoring for the panthers were Tina Campbell -with two goals, Kim Crawford, Chrissy O'Toole, Bocci Farquhar and Jocllc Lamport with one a piece.
