Senior football
triumphs over
Goderich Vikings
By Michelle Ellison
EXETER - The senior football
team met the "Enemy" on Thursday .
for a league game. The Enemy, aka--
Goderich,
ka-Goderich, was welcomed by an ex-
huberant team prepared to win. And
win they did with a final score of
12-7.
An 11 yard run touchdown by Jeff '.
Denotter and a convert kicked by
Jon O'Connor, put SH in the lead
early in the game.
The second quarter proved not to
be quite as successful for SH. The
defensive team . made too many
mental mistakes allowing Gode-
ricb's receivers to get behihd them
scoring a 15 yard touchdown as
well as the convert.
One highlight of the quarter was a
goal line stand where the Panthers
held the Vikings at the two yard
line with 13 seconds left in the
quarter. Eventually Goderichfum-
bled the ball to end the quarter.
It wasn't until the fourth quarter
that SH put together a.couple of
plays to move the -ball successfully
down the field to the five yard line,
Sports
Harlen Tinney then handed the ball
off to Den Otter who carried thc
ball into the end zone for the. go
ahead.
But Goderich was not about to
give in to the Panthers: They put
together a drive that threatened • the
Panthers lead. Fortunately time ran
out and SH was victorious once
again, winning 12-7. -
Panthers football
JUNIORS EDGED - Goderich Vikingsproved tough competition for the
Panther Juniors Thursday. Pete -McAllister breaks away with the ball, but
Goderich made a final conversion to bring the score to 14-13.

EXETER - The junior Panthers
also met their arch rivals in a close
match that endcd in favour of the
Goderich Vikings:
At one point. SH lcd 13 to zero.
Brett Borden caught a pass from
Pete McAllister in the end zone for
the first touchdown and John Gol
len ran in the second. Brett Rideout
kicked the convert to give SH quite
a lead.
Although the team still led 13 to
seven at half time, the second half
of the game brought penalties and
many mistakes for SH. Goderich
proceeded to score another touch-
down and a convert to make the fi-
nal score 14 to 13. -
Head coach, Dave Cox, said, "It
was not so much that Goderich beat
us as that we beat ourselves with -
penalties and mistakes."

Sunday night's 8-4 drubbing of an

_is any. indication.
About three-quarters of the team
dressed for Exhibition action in a
game many thought would be a
challenge for the Exeter team which
includes new goalie, Bill Dark. It
was his play 'for the Moorctown

Scherer,Wayne Urbshott. and Ron

been decided yet with coach Gord
Brooks having three more exhibi-

cult problem of Just who will be
wearing Mohawk sweaters this sea-
son.

Mohawks taking on the Dorchester
Dolphins in Exeter Sunday evening
at 7:30.
It was only 15 seconds into the
opening period when two familiar
faces from last year connected as
Paul Barton slammed home a pass
from Quincy Wilker.
Aylmer countered with two goals
late in the first period making the
score 2-1.
Paul Barton answered quickly at
2:59 in the -second frame when he
pounced on a loose puck caused by
Dale Gibbon's slap shot.
Aylmer made the score 3-2 26
seconds later before the Mohawk
scoring machine fired in six unan-
swered goals.

Urbshott assisted by Brent Murray

with .his first assisted by Quincy
Wilker and Brent Murray; Jeff
Shipley from Wayne Urbshott and

the game and looked strong until it
was Dark's turn to replace him at
9:46 in the second period.

debut by slipping by him at 18:43
