Large crowd views 38 yearlings
LUCAN - A large. crowd was on
hand Sunday afternoon at Seelster
Farms near Lucan to get a preview
of the 38 standardbred yearlings
whicli will be sold in the near fu-
ture.
A total of 38 yearlings was on
display in'thc show ring for broth-
ers Chris, Jim and Gerry Van Bus-
sel, owners of Seelster Farms.
At the Forest City yearling sale
set - for Saturday, August- 27 at
Western Fair Raceway in London,
14 Scclstcr colts and fillies will be
on the auction block.
On September 8 at Mohawk
Raceway at Campbellville, eight
more from Seelster Farms will be
.offered for sale and the other 16
will be sold at the Canadian Clas-
sic sale at the Woodbine Sales Pa-
villion in Toronto. on September
14 and.15.
Chris Van Bussel said Sunday
that the 38 yearlings this.y'ear is a
record number forSeelster He add-
ed, " We hope to increase 12 50
yearlings for next year. That will
be the levelling off point. 11 takes
a lot of work to look after this
number of mares and foals. We
have 15 full-ime employees".

Attracting alot of attention Sun-
day was Imperial Seelster, a brown
colt sired by On the Road Again
who paced a 1.51.4 mile as a four
year-old and at the age of three won
the Meadowlands Pace. the Cane
Pace, Confederation Cup, Jersey
Classic, Provincial Cup and Shel-
ley Gaudreau Memorial.
Also standing out is Fernando
Scclstcr, a half brother to Fortune.
Seelster who has knocked off a
utile in 1.54.2 am' has earnings of
$153,892..
More than a dozen of the .other
yearlings have full and half broth-
ers and sisters which have earned in
excessof$100,000 in career earn-
ings.

Thursday, Lois Armstrong
notched two wins and a score of 29

followed by Olive Hicks with two
wins and a score of 27.
In third place was Ray Smith
with two wins and a score of 20.
Bill Rogerson and Irvin Armstrong
tied with one win and a score of 22
_-each while Nelson Squire managed

• Saturday's match featured a tic
for first place between . Emma
Campbell and Peter McFalls with
two wins add a score of 24 plus
six. Nelson Squire had two wins
and a score of 23.
In third place were Tony Jones
and Stewart Miner who tied with
two wins and a scorc of 21.
Edna Caldwell closed the scoring
with two wins and a score of 17.
Exeter ladies golf
EXETER - Dorothy Kipfcr shot a
47 to take 1o%igross in A flight
when 17 playcrrtook to the greens
for the Exeter ladies golf club this
week. •
Dorothy Marks was runner-up
with 51. Marks also had the lowest
putts with 15.
In B flight, Helen Wasnidge card-
ed a 51 to claim low gross. Marg
Lovell followed with 67. Was-
nidge worked her way over the
course using only 17 putts`
Ina Browning shot a 58 to claim
C flight. She was followed by
Jean Crcrar with 59.
Jean Little, Peggy Ferguson, Ina
Browning, Theresa McCann and
Jean Crerar had 19 puns each.
