Last year more than 10,000 braved windy weather and threats of rain to sample the festival's baked beans, pork chops, entertainment and contests. Festival organizers hope, with good wcathcr this Satur- day, those crowds will be out in full force once more. - Fc.stival chairman Doug McBcath explained tilt anticue and classic car "It's still the secret recipe" show is expected to prove a major attraction for the festival. Around (50 well -polished and pampered cars are anticipated for the outdoor event. "Of course, that's dependent on the weather too," said McBcath, "People don't want to bring their cars out if it looks like rain." Last year's gloomy morning kept most exhibitors at home, but about SO cars did arrive to delight the car buffs, young and old. An unusual attraction this time, noted Ntel3cath, will be the blowing up of an engine-- it will be run without coolant or oil. The midway this year will not be as large as 'in the past, but Laugh- lin's Amusements from Melbourne will be present to keep the young- sters happy. McBcath said with ris- ing insurance costs, the larger Mid- way wasn't affordable. "They don't mike any money on a one day event," said NIcBcath. The Bean Queen contest will be- gin with the introduction of the contestants at 1 p.m. They will re- turn after judging for the crowning at 3 p.m.. Gifts for the contestants will he donated by Country Flow- ers, Wucrtlt's Shoes, Earl Campbell Jewellers, Big V, llcssenland, His 'n Iler 1 -lair Place, and The Beauty Den. "It's a community effort," said Mc Beath. A dance organized by the Minor Athletic Association is scheduled for 9 p.m. in the arena with music by Eureka and Sleepy 1 follow.
