The Junior Agriculturalist pro- gram was also successful with five of the eight participants completing the program. Students from Clear- water, Petrolia, Camlachic, Wcl- --7-tailttt and Peterborough worked alongside Glcnn Jeffrey of Exeter, Matin Van`inliuys of Bclgravc, Ron, Pentland of Dungannon, and Mervin 'Smith of Walton. New safety standards on cribs OTTAWA - Fcdcral Consumer and Corporate Affairs Minister Har- vie Andre • announced plans to amend the Cribs and Cradles Regu- lations. This move will improve child safety in new crib models with move -away sides. . This type of crib is designed so that one side, in addition to the tra- ditional positions, can be lowered, raised or opened for greater conven- ience. . The amended -regulations •under the Hazardous Products Act will, when promulgated, require the fea- turcd move -away side to have addi- tional locking mechanisms that can - be activated only by an adult. This style of crib will also have to carry a warning label, visible with the crib side in any position, about the potential hazard of (caving a child unattended unless the side is in the normal use position. 1 whatever study habits he might have had during his short high- school• career were long gone by this time, but claims his'"stick-to- it-ivencss" • got him • through the course and gained him entry to. the University. "It's not always an easy road," he "1 think we knew it was going to be a long haul," agreed Mary. "The Lord has .been leading the 'whole way.' He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in ancient near -eastern studies in 1985 and gained his Master_of Divinity from the Western Theo-. logical Seminary in Michigan this May. Martyn explains because the aver- age age of the students in the semi- nary school was 32, he felt a lot of support from his classmates. Many, like him, were returning to school attains goal as after leaving other careers. A Reformed -Church in Brantford soon offered. Martyn a position as their minister. This too, will not be apt easy road. , The Bethel Reformed Church in Brantford has been without a mini- ster for two years. Martyn believes it needs a strong leader to put it back on the right track. While the Reformed Church of America is North America's oldest established denomination, -it enjoys much larger support . in the U.S. where Americans are not as choosy over the denomination they attend. Martyn says Canadians are- more likely to attend the same church' as their parents.- Martyn himself at- tended the Bethel Reformed Church in Exeter along with his parents: Thus the growth of the Reformed Church in .Ontario beyond 25 churches is likely to bc.slow. - - The project for - a Reformed .Church in' London's Whitchills sulxtivision has been scrapped in fa- vor of a better -received Kitchener location. - - While Martyn's congregation is - aware of his .previous blue collar career, not all welcome the idea as pastor one 'tight think. • Some of the old- er members of.the congregation re- serve a certain esteem for their min- isters. "They like to have their minister up on a pedestal," said Martyn, but he says the finds the Brantford con- gregation very friendly. For the many who return to school, the ministry is not likely to be a top choice as a second ca- reer. This i' as it should be, ac- cording to Marlyn. - "It's -a. very high calling. You can't do it on your own," he said, adding that he relied on God's help - all they way.. Martyn's advice to those who are considering .returning to school is simple: a clear purpose is neces- sary.. - - "They really have to work with a goal in mind, with a carccr in . mind. They have to know what they want," said Martyn. ID BAN K Toronto Dominion Bank invites you to - Investor Information Evening DATE: September 8, 1988 TIME: 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. .
