Times-Advocate, 1988-07-06, Page 15Tykes edge Listowel EXETER - Andy Glavin .led Rowe Fuels Tykes to a 13-12 vic- tory over Listowel June 21 when the locals extended their record to three wins and four losses. Offen- , sively, Glavin .hit a home run in the bottom of the sixth to pull Ex- eter to within one run of the lead- ing Listowel team. The young player also managed two singles for two runs in three trips to the 'plate. • Defensively, Glavin turned in a double play, running down a run- ncr who was caught off the bag at second base and then throwing a second runner out at home plate. Darryl Hartman also contributed offensively with one single and one double in three trips to the plate. Hartman scored two runs. Winning pitcher Scott Rowe struck out six batters and allowed just five hits in the effort. Rowe Fuels took a- pounding June 20 when Parkhill defeated them 18-3. Most of the Parkhill runs were scored in one inning. Todd Rcdgcld made a good im-• pression in his firstt-appearance as pitcher, throwing tlirec strong in- nings ab tinst Parkhill. Exeter Tykes had a good outing against Listowel June 14 when they banded their opponents a 19-15 loss in Exeter. Rowe Fuels scored six runs on two hits in the first inning and five runs on no hits in the third. Jeff MacLean provided a strong offensive effort for Exeter, knocking out three singles in three attempts at bat. MacLean scored twice. Hartman managed one double and one single in three trips to the plate while Jason Maskell contributed one single to score a run in two turns at bat. Rowe was again on the mound for Exeter, throwing five strike outs and allowing ten hits and ten walks. Rowe Fuels traveled to St. Marys June 13 and wcrc.narrowly defeated by their hosts 15-14. Pitcher Paul Van Dyken carne up with the play of the game when he struck out three in a row in the sec- ond inning. Van Dyken had five strikeouts to his credit while he al- lowed 10 hits and three walks. Andy and Jeff Glavin made for a tough .combination at bat. Andy managed one double and two singles in four trips to the plate while Jeff tumcd in three -singles. -- Bun Guenther, Rowe and MacL- ean each notched a single in the ef- fort.
