To host county, rally Granton WI hears district report By MRS. E. SUMMERS The Granton W.I. met in the St. Thomas Anglican Church Hall on June 21 Mrs. Clarence Lewis presided. This was followed by a reading by Mrs. Lewis entitl- ed "The People of God." Mrs. Hamilton Hodgins, District Director gave a very informative report on the North Middlesex District An- nual meeting held at Poplar Hill May 19. • It was announced that the County Rally will be held in the Granton Community Park on July 19. Mrs. Lewis had some en- quiries with regard to bus trips. These were discussed. The guest speaker was Mrs. Stuart Shier of Kirkton who spoke on her trip to the Holy Land in February. This was well illustrated by her pic- tures and some souvenirs that she had brought back. A tasty lunch convened by Mrs. Lewis and Mrs. Earle French was enjoyed. Personals The 57th annual picnic of the Niche! Family was held on June 25 at the Parkhill Conservation' Area. After a delicious smorgasbord din- ner. a sports program was enjoyed. Robert Millson of London was elected president and Patricia Harlton, secretary - treasurer. David Weathson of Glanworth and Larry McClarin of Sarnia are the sports committee for 1984. They were joined in worship by members of Wesley United Church and St. Thomas Anglican Church and friends from out of town. The Rev. Bruce Pierce was in charge of the service and introduced the guest speaker, the Rev. Dudley Mosure of Forest. Taking the text for his sermon from Matt. 28, the Rev. Mosure said "We revel in new beginnings of our church, but are we keeping them going and are we witnessing for Jesus Christ?" Sunday School members receiving attendance awards 'were the following children: first pin, Wayne Geiser, Heather Kirby and Michael Kirby; third pin, Paula Wallis; wreath, Angie Wallis. Mrs. Leroy Bryan Sunday School Superintendent paid tribute to the Sunday School teachers. and in turn receiv- ed praise from the Rev. Pierce for her contribution as superintendent: Flowers were placed in the church in loving memory of the late James Kerr by his family. Special music was provided by the choir. The service concluded with the observance of the Lord's Supper, with the Rev. Pierce conducting the ceremony, assisted by the Rev. Mosure. A time of fellowship was en- joyed over refreshments on the church lawn. Picnic barbecue for Kirkton Anglicans By MRS. HAROLD DAVIS Mr. and Mrs. Harold Davis attended the Pym Reunion in Exeter Park on Sunday: Misses Kim and Sharon Doupe returned home from a weeks holiday in Texas where Sharon met and visited her pen pal of a few years. Mrs. Ray Paynter returned home after being in Kentucky with a group of the Daughters of the Nile. Miss Evelyn Walkom of Kitchener spent a few days with Miss Ethel Copeland also Mrs. Archie Mitchell of Lon- don visited Saturday and at- tended the beef barbeque. Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Donohoe and Miss Heather Urquhart of Mississauga spent the weekend with their parents Mr. and Mrs. Jack Urquhart and John. Mr. and Mrs. Gary Ballard and Craig of Mississauga spent the weekend with Mr. Rea Stephen. Mr. and Mrs. Burns Blackler were dinner guests Sunday of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Dobson in London. Tea Party wins Times -Advocate, June 29, 1983 Page 17 • Yacht club Moses 100 mile race with 55 enfrants Grand Bend Yacht Club, with assistance from Labatts and Oakwood Inn, hosted the annual 100 race yachters at a registration , party at Oakwood Friday night. The 100 -mile race began Saturday and ended Sunday morning. Fifty-five boats started. This year the course was from Grand Bend to Goderich, to Kettle Point,to Grand Bend and Bayfield and back to Grand Bend. Because there .was no wind at Goderich some boats didn't finish. Tea Party, a 39 -foot boat, • skipped by S. Boston of the Sarnia Yacht Club was judg- ed best in the race. Second was Nemesis, a 30 -foot vessel also from Sarnia, skipped by C. Lawerence. Third place prizes went to the largest boat in the race, Force, a 52 -foot craft from the Port Huron Yacht Club, skipped by Bob Klebba. During the presentation ceremonies, Oakwood owner and representative from Labatts, David Scatcherd presenjed a new loo trophy. It is a four -foot high wooden structure with the replica of an ancient ship's wheel mounted on the side. The club presented Scat- cherd with a painting of Canada 1, for Oakwood Inn. Canada 1 is currently in inter- national competition racing on the east coast. In making the presentation of the -trophy, Scatcherd said that he and Labatts would look forward to sponsoring the Grand Bend 100 in the future. Personals Mr. and Mrs. Roy Broad, of Grand 'Cove attended the McLeoud reunion, Sunday, at Poplar Hill Park, with about 60 in attendance. Congratulations to Mrs. Loreeu Gill, on her more than 30 -year teaching career. A retirement reception was held for Mrs. Gill, Sunday after- noon, June 26, at Stephen Cen- tral 'school. There were around 125 guests present who came from Winnipeg, Toronto, Parkhill, Exeter, London, Georgetown, Hensel! and Zurich. Mrs. Gill and her family were guests at a picnic supper at Mrs. Gill's sister's, Wilma and Sandy Munn of Hensel!, Sunday evening. Recent visitors with Alex and Clara Hamilton, were fired and Rita Hamilton, Allen and Ronnie, of London on Father's Day, Sunday. A group of Grand Bend Golden Agers met Wednesday afternoon at St. John's Parish Hall. The hall will be open Wednesday afternoons for any age group, who wishes to drop in for games and recrea- tion, courtesy of the Grand Bend Parks and Recreation board.
