Ray Hartman elected PTA president
The family of Claude and
Madeline Gelinas held a get-
together on Saturday at the
home of their daughter Mary
Frane and Ed Damaren in
London. It was a belated
Father's Day gathering, and
also going away party, as the
Gelinas, with daughter Beth,
left for the West on Monday to
spend ten days with son, Joe
Gelinas and family.
A lovely bridal shower was
held at the hoone of Rebecca
Wilder on Sunday.in honor of
a niece, Melissa t'orriveau,
daughter of Francis and An-
na Mae Corriveau of
Nilestown (London) for
several friends and relatives.
The August bride -elect
received lovely and useful
gifts.
On Sunday a fun -day of
swimming and sports was en-
joyed by "Cor" kids from sur-
rounding areas in St. Marys.
Approximately 35 were there
and had a barbecue for
supper.

Varna grads receive .awards

A graduation ceremony for
59 grade. eight students was
held at Huron Centennial
School on Thursday. June 23.
Dana Kloss, Brucefield, was
class valedictorian. and
received the award for best
all-around girl. Runner-up
was Julie Webster. Varna.
Best all-around boy was Jon
Knight. Egmondville, and
runner-up was Doug Roy.
Varna. Awards for sports par-
ticipation went to Darin
McKenzie, Clinton, and Ken-
dra Papple. Egmondville.
Brad Eckel. Varna, was
named most improved
student.
Martha Hook received the
award for French, with
runner-up Roxanne Martin.
Zurich. In music the awards
were reversed; Roxanne w s
awarded first place, and M r-
tha was runner-up.
The awards for math and
for best academic boy both
went to John Kalbfleisch,
Varna. Runner-up for
academic honors was Steven
Bean, Brucefield.
Martha Hook won for best
academic girl, and Roxanne
Martin was runner-up.
John Kalbfleisch took the
public speaking trophy.
Awards for perfect atten-
dance went to Jeanette Keys
and Julie Webster, Varna.

Another successful pork
barbecue was held by Varna
United Church on Wednes-
day, with over 1,200 tickets
sold. Its success is the result
of the efforts of nearly every
member. Special mention
should go to the Board of
Stewards who do the planning
and much of the work, and
especially to the treasurer,
Bernice Reid, whose ex-
perience and hard work is in-
valuable in co-ordinating our
efforts.
The Christian Education
Committee hosted a barbecue
and swim for all Sunday
school teachers and officers,
group leaders and 1'teir
families on Sunday at the
home of Eric and Sharon
Chuter. It was a great party.

one or two days a week dur-
ing the holidays? The
Vanastra Recreation Centre
is again sponsoring a
playground program from Ju-
ly 4 to August 26, from 10 in
the morning until 4 p.m.. in
Vanastra on Monday, ,
Egmondville on Tuesday and
Varna on Thursday. Atten-
dance from this area was ex-
cellent last year. Cost is $8.00
per child or 820.00 per family,
with Wednesday bus trips ex-
tra. On July 13 the trip is to
Bingeman Park, Kitchener;
on July 27, there will be a
nature hike at Ipperwash
Military Camp; August 10,
Point Farms; August 24, Lon-
don Children's Museum and
Springbank Park. Parents
and others may go on the
trips. Children who don't
register for the regular pro-
gram, hut wish to participate
in special events, may do so
by paying a day fee of 82.00.
A phone call to the rec cen-
tre at 482-3544 before the first
day will register your
children.
The Tiny Tot program for
ages 3 to 5 is on Friday morn-
ings at the Vanastra Rec Cen-
tre from 9:30 to 11:30.

tion followed at the rec centre
in Exeter with music by Coun-
try Unlimited. Betty is the
daughter of Ray and
Elizabeth Rasenberg.
On Monday afternoon the
kindergarten class of St.
Boniface School held their lit-
tle graduation ceremony in
the gym with many parents
present and was reall�yy
cute. In the evening the grad✓
8 graduation took place begin-
ning with Mass at 7:30 follow-
ed by a program and lunch in
the school gym. Report cards,
diplomas, Rosaries and
awards were handed out to
the students. Friends and
relatives also attended and
were served refreshments.
A 'beautiful sunny day
brought out lots and lots of
people for the annual family
dinner held at the rest home
on Sunday for the residents
and their families. A delicious
ham and turkey smorgasbord
complete with all the trimm-
ings and fresh strawberry
shortcake was enjoyed by
over 200 people.
