STRONG PULLERS — Souf Huron's gra•e 13 students use their strength to win
o tug of war against the teachers at o picnic at the school, Friday.
Three athletes 'to all -Ontario
Three South Huron athletes
qualified for the All -Ontario
track and field meet which
will be held this Friday and
SaturdAy at Kitchener
Centennial Stadium.
Derek Hippern threw 513
metres to place fourth in the
junior boys javelin at the
Western Regional meet in
Tillsonburg last weekend.
This throw bettered his
WOSSA silver medal
distance. The tall cool grade
eleven student is also a
talented high jumper. '
Fourth place and a ticket to
OFSAA were also earned by
Dave Woodfine in the midget
boy's discus. In his first year
of high school competition
Woodfine used his size and ex-
perience in an Ottawa track
club to throw the disucs 41
metres.
Another first year chucker,
Sean Whiteford threw a per-
sonal best of 46 metres in the
midget boy's javelin. His
sixth place finish cuts him off
from OFSAA competition but
there is still the chance that
someone will scratch to open
an entry for Sean.
Whiteford and Hippern had
better throws at the Regionals
but both faulted by falling
over the line.
Susan McClure, running
with an injured knee placed
seventh in the 400 m sprint
(61.3 seconds) and was sixth
in the 400 m hurdles with a
seasonal best time of 66.7
seconds.
Because of lack of entries
from Northern Ontario,
McClure can compete in OF -
SAA this weekend.
These track and field
athletes are the only Panthers
left competing as all other
sports have completed their
seasons,
