Area Institutes elect new officers
A good evening was en-
joyed at Crediton Hall May
28, 19e3. This was the first
time that Huron South
Women's Institute district an-
nual was an evening meeting.
The first and second vice
presidents of Huron South
district, Mrs: Shapton and
Mrs. Coward were in charge
of registration and beverage.
The theme of the evening
was, "You can climb higher
mountains by climbing one at
a time." Mrs. Gordan Papple
and Mrs. Riehl, the president
and secretary of the Huron
South district conducted the
meeting. It opened with the
Institute Ode, followed by
Mary Stewart Collect.
Mrs. Eveland welcomed
everyone to Crediton for the
district annual and invited all
for the craft sale and lunch
later in tt e evening.
Mrs. Love of Grand Bend
Institute read a poem in
memory of our past Institute
ihembers and Mrs. Desjar-
dine sang the Lord's Prayer.
South Huron Women's In-
stitute donated $500 to help
purchase tables and chairs
for the developmental centre.
Paul Turnbull, public rela-
tions officers of Arc In-
dustries, Dashwood, through
his pictures an4commentary
said that handicapped girls
and boys from ages 5 to 21 at-
tend this centre in the J.A.D.
McCurdy School at Huron
Park.
Mrs. Templeman of Stella,
the provincial board director,
conducted the ratification of
district directors and also
reported on the work of the
Women's Institutes in the pro-
vince of Ontario.
Entertainment was super.
Zurich Institute ladies Mrs.
Brakey and Mrs. Neil sang a
duet, Today, accompanied by
Mrs. Martin. Then Mrs..Mar-
tin played a piano selection
"Holy Waters" which coincid-
ed with our weather. Mrs.
Doig of Seaforth humoured us
with several anecdotes.
Business was conducted
and reports were adopted.
Visitors from Middlesex,
Lambton, North Huron and
South Perth were
acknowledged.

place well in contest
South Huron District High
School placed several
students high in a recent pro-
vincial typing contest. Grade
10 student Lynn Gaiser was
second in Ontario.
Earlier this spring typing
teacher Phyllis Lawton
selected the school's best
typists in a preliminary run-

The theme for this year is
FOCUS ON WHEAT and
there are many specials per-
taining to the theme in the
flower, domestic depart-
ments, etc.
With the generous dona-
tions of local firms the fair is
offering $600 worth of prizes
in Sheaf of Wheat competi-
tion. (So be sure to gather
your wheat early to enter the
competition.)

speed and accuracy won her
first in Huron county and se-
cond in the province. South
Huron's novice team was
first. Gaiser has been invited
to Toronto Saturday June 4
for an awards banquet held
by the Ontario Business
Educators Association. ,

Jane Muegge, Huron Coun-
ty Home Economist spoke
briefly on 4-11 and adult pro-
grams. Adult programs are
food preservation and rug
braiding.
Guest speaker, Mrs.
Yvonne Reynolds, from the
staff of Exeter Times Ad-
vocate spoke on the theme,
"Climbing Mountains." In a
humourous style she said
"we're meant to climb moun-
tains, one at a time - it is not
always straight up,
sometimes it is a step to the
side. And when we do reach
the top we see the beauty
below and beyond - and we
have gained that confidence
to climb others."
Business was conducted. A
resolution was voted on to re-
quest that Bell Canada take
into consideration the pro-
blems that the small print in
the London, St. Thomas acid
Goderich directory are
representing to many people
"and ask that they revert
back to the format as in
previous books."
