Times-Advocate, 1983-03-30, Page 12Page 12 Times -Advocate, March 30, 1983 Cantata, science fair and bake sale among activities planned for April On Sunday April 3 at 8 p.m. at the Zurich Mennonite Church the choir will present an Easter cantata entitled The Gospel Song of Easter. It is based on many familiar songs. The public is welcome to attend. The Zurich Public School is holding a Science Fair today (Wed. March 30) at the school. Judging of the exhibits will take place during the afternoon. There will be on display for those attending an open house from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in the auditorium tonight. Just a reminder about the UCW Bake Sale this Satur- day, April 2 at Ed Gascho's Store on Main St, beginning at 11 a.m. The Zurich Minor Athletic Assoc. will be holding their annual end of the season hockey banquet (pot luck sup- per) at the arena on Thurs- day, April 7 at 6:00 p.m. The Cubs have been busy this past week; they are try- ing to raise some money by selling chocolate Easter bun- nies and getting donations towards planting trees for Canada. And the figure skating club are busy selling chocolate bars. Personals Ed and Coleen Maki and family of Windsor spent Saturday and Sunday visiting with friends. Mr. and Mrs. Don Oesch, and children visited with grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Marinus Vermunt. A lovely bridal shower was held for Patty Gingerich, daughter of Gerald and Pearl Gingerich, last Friday even- ing at the Mennonite Church, where she received several. useful and beautiful gifts. Jim and Joy Hogg returned home recently from a two week trip to Corpus Christi, Texas, holidaying with Joy's sister. They also spent three days in Mexico and had a wonderful time. Weekend visitors with Mrs. Myrtle Deitz were her daughter, Gloria Allen and son, Glen Deitz both of London. Elroy and Myraline Desjar- dine returned home a week ago Monday after motoring to Yuma, Arizona, where they visited with her sister, Shirley and Bill Junn. On the way home they stopped at various places, such as Las Vegas for a few days, took in the Stage Follies (which had a cast of 100 people) then on to the Grand Canyon, and at Nashville saw the Grand Ole Opry. They had a very en- joyable three month vacation • and were happy to arrive back home in Zurich safe and sound but tired. Father John Corriveau visited with his mother, Mrs. Meryl Corriveau at the Maplewoods Apts. on Sunday and Monday. Morris and Kay Webb ar- rived home Sunday after a delightful two -and -a -half month holiday at Riviera Beach in Florida. Mr. and Mrs. Keith Gingerich and Robert Steckle returned after spending the past week at Newton Kansas representing the Mennonite Church at a Sunday School Seminar. Guest speaker for the evening was Bob Thomas, Agrologist with the Bank of Montreal and teacher at Cen- tralia College. Sharon Durand, Marie Cyr, Julie Debus and Evelyn Jef- frey made a nice retreat at, Holy Family Retreat house in Oxley (near Leamington) over the weekend. Miss Trudy Vanden Boomen, London , daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Vanden Boomen, RR 2 Hensall along with her friend Kelly spent 10 days in Rome and felt priviledged to be among these at a Mass being celebrated by Pope John Paul and when he officially announced the start of the "Holy Year of Redemption". Mr. and Mrs. Matthew Ducharme and Mr. and Mrs. Jerome Denomme recently spent the weekend in Mon- treal with friends Andre and Suzanne Madore and while there enjoyed going to a sugar bush and having a pioneer breakfast. Mary -Ellen and Rob Van Aaken, children of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Van Aaken spent the March break with their sister, Wilma Farnsworth and husband, in Cranbrook B.C. Elaine Pennings had an nice 10 day visit with her. sister Mary Jane, out west in British Columbia.
