The United Church Women
The March meeting of the
U.C.W. was held at the church
with Isabel Bullock acting as
hostess. .
The Worshop service was
opened by Ruby Isaac and the
theme was "Let's Face
Ourselves". The hymn, "0
Master Let Me Walk with
Thee" was sung followed by
the scripture read by Anna
Eagleson.
Ruby and Isabel shared the
reading and we learned that
to live is to have personal pro-
biems but how we overcome
them is important. A poem
"Prayer" was read.
Isobel Bullock presided
over the business. Minutes
were read and approved and
the treasurer's report was
given. Many cards had been
sent out and cards of thanks
were received for funeral lun-
cheons etc. Forms are at the
church for anyone wishing to
attend Camp Menesetung.
Iva Lagerwerf and Anna
Eagleson volunteered to help
the, president at the World
Day of Prayer. March 16 is
the date of the congregational
variety supper. Many other
items of business were
dispensed with and one
member visited the Birthday
Bank and 16 members
answered the roll call with a
gift for Thameswood Lodge.
After the Benediction and
Grace were repeated Isabel
and Anna Eagleson served a
tasty lunch provided bx Ruth

The Third Sunday of Lent
church service was held Sun-
day with the Rev. Robert
Matheson in charge. He told
the children a story entitled,
"I Am Who I Am". The ser-
mon was entitled "Terra
Firma?"
All of 'our scripture lessons
are about controversy. In Ex-
odus 3:1,8-15 a murderer on
the run has an encounter.
Another person who has
been on the wrong side of our
faith writes to the members of
the Christian community 1
Cotinthians 10:1-13 in Corinth
to tell his readers there is
more to God's Kingdom than
receiving the sacraments.
Jesus tells a parable in Luke
13:1-9 which compares our
performance with a fig tree
that doesn't bear fruit
As Christians, we often
speak about being secure in
our faith or having a firm
foundation set in Jesus Christ
as Lord and Saviour. Yet here
we are being told we are to
face controversy and risk
because we believe our lives
have received their founda-
tions from God himself! Our
world fails to understand the
meaning of lives founded on
the Rock of Salvation.
When we are so secure in
God we are to forget our own
physical well-being in order to
he of service to others - in
order to become a changed
person putting the will of
God and the welfare of others
in first place over and above
our own welfare. •
